FilmCraft is an open-source nonlinear video editor written from scratch in Rust as a clean-room reimplementation of familiar Premiere Pro workflows. It provides source and program monitors, bins, multitrack timelines, workspaces, effects, color tools, titles, audio, and export functions. The project includes its own implementations of codecs and containers such as H.264, HEVC, ProRes, AAC, VP9, Opus, MP4, and Matroska. A GPU compositor works in linear light, while exact integer time math prevents edit drift. Every editing action is exposed as a command, allowing automation through a CLI, JSON control server, or MCP. Native builds target macOS, Windows, and Linux, while the same engine can also run through WebAssembly. FilmCraft is under active development and does not yet claim complete production parity.
