Discourse is a modern, open source community discussion platform built for creating threads, categories, real‐time chat, and rich interactions. It is designed to foster constructive conversations, moderation, and community management. It uses Ruby on Rails for its back end and Ember.js for its front end, with PostgreSQL for data storage and Redis for caching and transient data. Discourse supports plugin and theme extensions, is self-hostable (or available via hosted option), and supports extensive customization and moderation tools.
