ABOUT CruxEX 3.8 64 bit 2025 Linux Live System Build 250427 NEWS ABOUT CruxEX BUILD 250427 I've made a new version of CruxEX which I call CruxEX Linux Live System. It is distributed as a "normal" ISO. (Build 221031 was distributed as a Zip file only to be installed on a USB stick). In CruxEX Build 250427 I have managed to install Refracta Snapshot and Refracta Installer. With Refracta Snapshot you can very easy create you own CRUX Live Installable System. I mean change everything to your liking and then create a new ISO. That can be done after a hard drive installation using Refracta Installer. If you have plenty of RAM you can even create a new ISO while running CruxEX live! In that case you may have to change the place where the new ISO will be saved. Just edit /etc/refractasnapshot.conf. Watch this screenshot: https://cruxex.exton.se/cruxex-231208/cruxex-refractasnapshot-home-231208.jpg Change home to (for example) /mnt/sdd2 (which has to be a Linux partition). You'll have to mount /dev/sdd2 before starting Refracta Snapshot. Commands: mkdir /mnt/sdd2 followed by mount /dev/sdd2 /mnt/sdd2 USING Refracta Installer in CruxEX BUILD 250427 A. Create an install partition of about 35 GB (if you later on want to use Refracta Snapshot) and a SWAP partition of about 2 GB. B. Start Refracta Installer from the menu and follow the instructions - watch this screenshot: https://cruxex.exton.se/cruxex-231208/cruxex-refractainstaller-running-231208.jpg 3. When asked about Grub you must be careful. Don't install Grub if you already have one Linux system installed on your UEFI computer and use Grub as boot loader. Just go on without installing Grub. Later on you can add start lines for CruxEX in /boot/grub/grub.cfg on the partition where you have Grub installed. If you, however, need Grub for installing CruxEX in (for example) VirtualBox or VMware you shall chroot and run the following two commands: 1) grub-install /dev/sda 2) grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg 3) exit Watch this screenshot: https://cruxex.exton.se/cruxex-3.8-vbox-grub-install-250427.jpg C. When asked about a new Linux user keep the live and root accounts - watch this screenshot: https://cruxex.exton.se/cruxex-3.8-refracta-installer-250427.jpg D. After that you will get two error messages - watch this screenshot: https://cruxex.exton.se/cruxex-3.8-refracta-installer-error-250427.jpg Don't worry though. Everything is alright. Just close down Refracta Installer. Refracta Installer is made for Debian Systems. Thus the error messages. INFO ABOUT CruxEX/CRUX CruxEX 2025 64 bit Linux Live System is based on CRUX 3.8 (latest version, released 250421), which is all Linux enthusiasts/nerds favorite OS. ("CRUX is a lightweight Linux distribution for the x86-64 architecture targeted at experienced Linux users"). CruxEX 2025 uses the LXDE Desktop environment. I have replaced the original CRUX kernel with "my" special kernel 6.14.2-amd64-exton with support for "extra everything". INSTALLED PACKAGES Among all installed applications are Firefox, GParted, Slim Login Manager (New!), Pulseaudio (NEW!), Gimp 3.0.2 (latest!), PCManFM and NetworkManager/NetworkManager Applet. Furthermore compilation tools so that you can install programs from source. UNIQUE CruxEX 2025 is - as my previous CRUX-remasters - unique in the world. I.e. there is no other CRUX Live System (as far as I know). In any case, not for downloading. The good thing with CruxEX is that it is a live system (which CRUX original isn't) and that you can run CruxEX superfast from RAM. Also that you can install CruxEX to hard drive in about 5 min and then have a ready-to-go CRUX desktop system. You can after that install any (extra) desktop environment you like. NOTE: You can (of course) install new Desktops environments and other stuff also when running CruxEX from a USB stick. NOTE also: To make CRUX original ready for everyday use will normally take 2 - 3 days! KERNEL WITH SUPPORT FOR ALMOST EVERYTHING If you have a new or/and unusual hardware you should try CruxEX 2025. This is because the system (using kernel 6.14.2-amd64-exton) supports "all forms of" hardware. INSTALLATON TO A USB STICK as regards Build 250427 Use Rufus 4.7 in Windows. No persistence. The best way to run CruxEX Build 250427 is to run it super fast from RAM. After boot you can eject the USB stick. DEFAULT LANGUAGE The default language (locale) is set to English in both versions. LOGIN Log in from the SLiM Login Window as the ordinary user live or as root with password live/root. While logged in as root you won't have sound. While logged in as live you can use Sudo to become root. Example command: sudo pcmanfm. RUNNING IN VirtualBox Yoc can run CruxEX in full screen since VirtualBox Guest Additions are pre-installed. To make it permanent change /etc/rc.conf.
