CSA stands for Comminty Supported Agriculture and is a system of farm-to-consumer direct marketing that can be described as subscribing to a farm. Customers sign up and pay at the beginning of the season for regular deliveries of farm produce. In most CSA farms, the farmers decides what produce goes in each week delivery, offering no choice to the customer. It allows customers of CSA farms to login and choose what will be in their CSA box each week by substituting desired products for unwanted ones. If CSA customers do not login, they will be delivered a standard “farmer’s choice” box. Before harvest, the software aggregates a harvest list for the farmer as well as prints out order labels for the CSA boxes. “Choice CSA” allows the farmer to create Users and Products in the database as well as define a certain number of Weeks for the season. For each Week, the farmer defines which products will be in the standard “farmer’s choice” box as well as other products that are available that week, along with inventories for both types of products. Each Week has an associated showtime/date and cutoff time/date, after which the standard box is displayed on the farm’s website and a User can login and make changes to their box. After the cutoff, which is normally 24-48 hours before delivery, the User can no longer make changes to their box and the farmer can then compile a harvest list for the week. “Choice CSA” also incorporates an accounting system for each user. If a User requests products with a value that is more than the standard box’s value, the difference is added to the account. When payments from customers are received, the farmer/administrator can record these in the account balance. The system also allows the CSA to sell products that are not part of the regular CSA. These might be products from other farms or non-vegetable items. These products are purchased seperately and can not be substituted for CSA products
