I finally got a working image to install Arch Linux on the Raspberry Pi 5. I basically followed the guide found here: https://wiki.vidalinux.org/index.php/Howto_install_archlinuxarm_raspberrypi5, but updated to a more recent kernel than referenced in the guide (found here: https://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspios_arm64/images/). One thing to note if you follow this guide, everything has to be done in superuser mode. I hate working that way, but it was necessary.
For the image you can download here, there is a normal user (username: alarm, password: alarm) and a root user (password: root). Almost nothing else is installed.
