Buildroot is a set of Makefiles and patches that makes it easy to generate a complete embedded Linux system. Buildroot can generate a kernel image, various libraries and applications in a root filesystem. Buildroot is useful mainly for people working with small or embedded systems, using various CPU architectures (x86, ARM, Blackfin, MIPS, PowerPC, etc.). It automates the building process of your embedded system and eases the cross-compilation process.

If you're new to buildroot Linux, the first thing to do is check out the [documentation](http://docs.blackfin.uclinux.org/). This should help you get your development host PC set up, and get you compling your first Linux distribution from source.
