yplot-1.2.0 has been released

Yorick is a high-level scientific programming language that is easy to learn, and yplot is a Yorick extension that gives Yorick users access to the PLplot library for their plotting needs.

The principal changes for the yplot-1.2.0 release are it has been updated to work with yorick-2.1.05 (the standard yorick version deployed, for example, on all modern versions of Debian and Ubuntu), a new CMake-based build system has been deployed, and as a result an ordinary autoloaded yplot extension to yorick is built rather than the special yplot and yplotl executables of the past. Testing shows yPlot-1.2.0 works well with the latest PLplot-5.9.0 that has been released as well as svn versions of PLplot that are precursors to the forthcoming PLplot-5.9.1 release.... read more

yPlot switched to Subversion

The cvs2svn script helped to preserve all the commit and tagged release information that was in the CVS repository.

yplot-1.1.3 has been released

yPlot (http://yplot.sourceforge.net/) is the yorick (http://yorick.sourceforge.net/) interface to PLplot (http://plplot.sourceforge.net/), the powerful scientific plotting library. The principal change for yPlot-1.1.3 is it has been updated to work with yorick-1.5.14 (the standard yorick version deployed on all modern versions of Debian and Ubuntu.) Testing also shows yPlot-1.1.3 works well with the recently released PLplot-5.6.1. N.B. Because the python/Numeric interface to PLplot provides all the high-level array functionality that is available with yorick and has the full PLplot API implemented, I recommend that interface over yPlot. However, for legacy use it is still worthwhile to keep yPlot maintained so that is the motivation behind the current release.... read more

yPlot-1.1.2 has been released!

yPlot-1.1.2 has been released! This is a GPLed Yorick interface to
PLplot-5.2.1 was originally developed by Conrad Steenberg. With some help
from Conrad, I continue to maintain yplot because it is one of the easier
interfaces for PLplot users to learn. (When I first encountered yPlot in
the mid-90's it took me only an hour or so to start doing the complicated
research plots I required following Conrad Steenberg's nice yPlot tutorial.)
yPlot continues to be independent of PLplot but is closely tied to recent
PLplot developments. To obtain yPlot-1.1.2 see the yPlot SF file release
area at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=15416 . The
md5sum is 406694001b5cec1a273bc6435818af42 for yplot-1.1.2.tar.gz. This
version of yPlot is based on PLplot-5.2.1, which is a large step forward
compared to the PLplot version (5.0.4) that yPlot was based on before. (See
the PLplot-5.1.0 and 5.2.1 release announcements at
http://plplot.sourceforge.net/announce-plplot-5.1.0.html
http://plplot.sourceforge.net/announce-plplot-5.2.1.html for details of the
many PLplot changes since version 5.0.4.) For example, the egregious
rendering bugs in example 8 (doc/x08.i) are now long gone, and the revised
doc/x08.i and doc/x11.i show off some new contouring functionality that is
now available with PLplot 3D plotting. The doc/x??.i examples from
yPlot-1.1.2 produce identical results to the corresponding C examples from
PLplot-5.2.1 which is an excellent test of the yPlot interface to PLplot.
Note the yPlot API changes and additions in the CHANGES file.

yplot-1.1.1 released

yplot-1.1.1 has been released as a tarball at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=15416.

Since the previous release (1.1.0), I have introduced some changes to make yplot build on solaris and also work with yorick-1.5 (1.1.0 only works with yorick-1.4). So the majority of yplot users (all 200 of you as judged from the downloads) have no need to upgrade. However, those who want to try to build it on solaris and/or with yorick-1.5 should use the new version.... read more
