No

The Save as PDF button disappears from the Options tab immediately after I switch to that tab.
I’m using the latest version of macOS Tahoe and Excel is already granted Full Disk Access in macOS System Settings.

Expected Behavior

The Save as PDF option should remain available and allow me to export the Excel file as a PDF.

Actual Behavior

The Save as PDF option briefly appears but disappears immediately after switching to the Options tab.

Environment

  • macOS Tahoe — latest version
  • Microsoft Excel — latest version
  • Excel has Full Disk Access enabled

Hmm.. That was a deliberate choice. When that button was added, I believe the printing to PDF just didn't work with Macs. That was over 10 years ago though, so it might not be the case now

Can you try running the macro directly and see if it works or not? I'm not on a Mac so I can't tell

    • Go to the Options sheet
    • In excel's menus goto Developer -> Macros -> scroll down PrintToPDF then click Run

If there's no problems, I can stop hiding the button on macs

I tried running the macro directly, and it worked! However, there were a few formatting issues in the generated PDF, as you can see in the attached file.

So I believe that is Stale Value Formatting - the printing function temporary turn calculation to manual and later versions of excel can strikethrough values that it thinks might have changed, but not been recalculated yet. I'm not sure where the initial change is coming from (it's not in my version of excel, so I can't check it properly) - it's just odd that it's affecting saves and the text, but not stats or spells.

Anyway, I think there should be an option under Formulas -> Calculation Options -> Stale Value Formatting where you can turn that off.

That solved the problem! Thank you so much for your help! You can go ahead and make those changes in a new version, and everything should work fine.

Thanks for checking this! In 10.11, that button should not longer be hidden for macs.
