Hi!

The zip support will only affect you if trying to upload modules, 
templates or translations. It doesn't affect file manager.

You forgot to mention the PHP version.
I tried to replicate this on my box but no success. Can you tell me the 
exact succession of stepts you take to reproduce this error?

Also, if possible, you could give me the url of your install (and admin 
password) so I can take a look there. If you decide to do so please send 
the information on my private e-mail, don't use the list. ;)
