Hi,

I am using XFE on the Openbox window manager. Although XFE itself, "Execute Command", "Search Files" and "Connect to Server" windows can be resized either by mouse or ALT+SPACE->Resize (Openbox shortcut to resize windows), "Preferences", "Help", and "About X File Explorer" windows cannot be resized.

Screen size of the computer:

xdpyinfo | grep -B2 resolution
screen #0:
dimensions: 1366x768 pixels (361x203 millimeters)
 resolution: 96x96 dots per inch

I configured Openbox to have a 32 pixel desktop margin at the bottom of the screen. Desktop margins are reserved areas in Openbox, and windows will not be placed within them. There is a tint2 panel at the bottom of the screen, and it has a 32 pixel height. Also, tint2 is configured with "Panel Layer = Normal" and "Maximized Windows = Match the panel size".

So, available with of the screen is 736 pixels, and all windows, whether maximised or not, should follow it. But windows I mentioned above does not follow these rules.

With default configuration, dimensions of the "Preferences" window are 519x777. This means that "Cancel" and "Accept" buttons on "Preferences" windows are not visible. If I change the font size from 10 to 9 and the DPI from 100 to 96, then the "Preferences" window sizes are 494x723 and the buttons are visible. However, a 9pt font size is too small for me to see all the details on XFE. I have to get close to the screen.

Is there any way to resize XFE windows, especially Preferences, without changing font size and DPI?

    Hi, thanks for the feedback.

Yes, in a tiny screen like yours, the Preferences, Help and About windows are too high to be entirely displayed. I can probably reduce their height by rearranging their content. I'll try to do this in the next release.

Note that all windows in Xfe can be stretched. However, some cannot be shrinked otherwise their content would not be entirely visible.

In Openbox, a simple workaround for your problem is to use the shortcut Alt + left click. It allows to move the window outside the screen borders and to show the Cancel / Accept buttons at the bottom.

Thank you Roland. I find another solution: Press ALT+SPACEBAR then choose "Move". Now, I can move the window outside of the screen by using navigation keys.
