I've got the event firing now both in the minimal example I sent to the 
list as well as the "real" code I was working on.

It looks like calling SetEventObject is not necessary, but passing the 
id of the object to the Wx::CommandEvent constructor is necessary.

It works in my app without problems.


In your example i'd suggest:

The water, however, looked about five or six feet deep, so there was no
point in breaking out the waders we'd brought with us.<br>

I started clearing away all the loose bricks around the top, chucking
them down inside the smokestack.<br>
To make matters worse, I noticed that each time the figure would pass
one of the doors to the mall he would walk over to it and attempt to
open it. We told him about the sinkhole and he told us he was also
having some video dubbed off.<br>
That seemed to make him think harder on it, and he asked to see the
video.<br>
It turned out they didn't know who owned the place either, but they were
just as interested in it as us.<br>
If I'd seen it going up before I climbed up on those rungs, I would've
stopped and gone the other way.<br>
I found the door Hiccup and Chris were standing outside and yelled to
tell them what I was doing.<br>
So, we started heading over that way. He got pretty excited once he saw
it and said that he would call the office and see if they were
interested. I had no intention of running into some random homeless
person or looter in a dark abandoned mall. In the middle of the
thoroughfare, there was also a large clock, as well as raised concrete
area that had once had plants growing in it.<br>
I ended up finding a door that was labeled sub-basement, but it only led
into a different area of the the basement.<br>
My parents had told me about an awesome rope swing they'd had set up
over there, and they weren't kidding. I decided to check it out anyway,
and it was good that I did. Neither of us could remember exactly where
we'd come into the main part of the mall.<br>
I decided right away I'd probably just keep it as a souvenir instead of
cashing it. Judging by the funny way he went walking off, though, it
hurt him a lot more.<br>

on both Windows and Linux, Perl throw an error: 'Attempt to free unreferenced 
scalar'.

Not sure how you would handle the Inline::Java parts (do you need to=20
pass data back and forth?), but I'll suggest running the java applet=20
within an embedded (java-enabled) browser.  From what I've seen of the=20
guts of wxwebkit, and wxmozilla, it is non-trivial to get an alien gui=20
component to play nice in a wxpanel.

[wxperl-users] Possible to embed a Java Applet in wxPerl?

We have a reporting system we use that has a Java applet client.  While 
we can run it along side our wxPerl application, it would be *nice* to 
integrate it into our application.  So....

Anyone have any ideas how to embed a Java applet into a Wx::Frame or 
Panel?  Some strange marriage of Inline::Java and Wx::Panel?  Or am I 
crazy?  :)

Thanks for your feedback. Looks like there is a general acceptance that 
threading in Perl is NOT a good idea. POE is still the preferred 
workaround. I will look into using POE instead.

It will duplicate all variables from when the thread is created.  That 
just means you have to create it early.

I've thought about it, but not tried it yet.  Perl's 5.8 threads are 
still a little odd, but they seem to work fine in the few (non-wx) 
examples that I've tried.
