messages mean my wxGtk is not good enough for Wx-0.57 ? It was OK for
Wx-0.26.

Or the build script simply can't find these libraries ? If the latter,
how do I specify their locations and where should they be located ?

[wxperl-users] problem with compiler version while building Wx-0.57

I've made some progress building Wx-0.57, though had to first build and install
Module-Build-0.2805, Module-Pluggable-3.1.

  For installing Perl modules in non-standard paths, please see the
"INSTALL PATHS" section of Module::Build documentation (for
Alien::wxWidgets) and the "make install" section of
ExtUtils::MakeMaker documentation (for wxPerl).

  First you need to install Alien::wxWidgets.

Where can I find step by step instruction how to build wxPerl from sources using
Alien-wxWidgets-0.22 ?

Do I just follow the instructions in Wx-0.57/README.txt file, which are:

  Open the file with :utf8 layer.
open my $fh, '<:utf8', "C:\my\file";
this should also fix the problems when LANG is set to C.

  The reason is: when wxPerl receives a Perl string marked as
characters, it treats the contents as Unicode; when the string
is marked as bytes, it interprets it using the currently set locale.

Many new parts were deliverd by. Note the high pitch sound and the
incredible rpms. It is two years since it begins the resolution!
Fortunate for the CUB it still manage to work even after riding a couple

not quite in this condition. Had some problems with the front fork and
wiring to the takegawa clocks. Got the kitaco CDI on the side of the
frame. These are a great bike to ride, fast and comfortable.<br>
Many parts purchased from CMS during the restoration.<br>
Also the candy gold paint!<br>
I think it may be a bit to low when Im running in the engine.<br>
A total restoration is in order, so the crank will be rebuilt at that
time.<br>
A sporty bike in Candy Gold. Fun to ride, a real
conversation-starter.<br>
Many parts for CMS used during restoration. Rare and collectable now,
good original bikes are hard to find.<br>
The lines were spraypainted.<br>
Ridden when the weather is nice and I have a day off! Also the candy
gold paint!<br>
This was cleaned; highly polished; satined in an emulsion and
clearlacked.<br>

Have you tried loading DND first 'use DND;' since the clipboard code is in
the DND modules?

and yes i did use Wx qw( wxTheClipboard );

and yes this works under same wx version in another app(with STC) but not in that >nearly< minimal sample.

[wxperl-users] Need help installing Wx-TreeListCtrl

Hello list (and especially Mark Wardell),

I'm having trouble installing Wx-TreeListCtrl. 
I need to say up front that I have little experience in building 
modules from scratch so keep it simple :-)

I'm doing the normal cpan install dance but it gives me errors on the 
first step (and offcourse the 2nd step fails):

I'm using the (excellent) Wx-Bundle-2.7.0 of wxperl.gigi.co.uk which
contains ppm's for:

Alien::wxWidgets 0.21
Wx 0.57
Wx::GLCanvas 0.04
Wx::ActiveX 0.50
Wx-Demo 0.02
...compiled against wxWidgets 2.7.0

(My guess is that the problem lies here in me not using my own builds)

The best solution (and easy way out) for me is offcourse a ppm but I'm
happy with a simple guide through the build process.

[wxperl-users] Patch for debugging wxPerl

I have found that when I use the perl debugger to debug wxPerl programs,
the program hangs when I quit using 'q'.

What I now do is to set up the environment variable PERL_QUIT_KILL. I
patched perl5db.pl for the 'q' command, so that it kills itself rather
than exit.

It seems to work on Linux and Windows.

Hi.

I have a program written for wxPerl which is meant to display utf8
strings in a wxTextCtrl control. (The utf8 strings are read from file)

1. On Windows, I get illegible garbage.

2. On Fedora 5 with LANG set to en_US.UTF-8 the results are fine.

3. On Fedora 5 with LANG set to C, lines which contain non-Latin letters
are not shown.

Does someone have a solution to display utf correctly on Windows?

And what is the explanation as to why lines containing non-Latin
characters do not display at all with LANG set to C?

What I usually like to do in this case is to make the windows of the
sub-application (in this case, the Java app) the children of a window
of the main application. This works quite nicely, at least on
Windows. Get the window handle for your perl wxWindow, then use it to
create a "fake" window object in Java that you use as parrent for all
Java windows.

If you can live with Wx-0.26, you can try my tool (see signature) - it builds
Wx-0.26 among other targets. Wx-0.26 is built on top of wxwidgets 2.6.3, which
are built on top of gtk+-2.8.20, etc.

The tool does not require root permission and builds and intalls everything
locally, so it won't screw up anything in your system.

[wxperl-users] Advice needed

In the example below, I create a new Frame, where the frame definition
is given in an xrc file. Normally, a new frame would give a HASH
reference, whereas LoadFrame gives a SCALAR reference. 

So the question arises: I have some private data, var, that I would like
to store in this class. How do I do it? $newFrame->{var} = $var fails
because of the scalar reference.

Is it likely that we will be able to download the latest version of
wxPerl from Active State anytime soon. The issue is that it is much
easier for users to be able to upgrade their system from there.
