You can't use LoadFile with VFS. You can use an in-memory filehandle
(open my $fh, '<', \$iconFile) and pass that filehandle to LoadFile.
You can also use IO::Scalar or similar.

Hello I have a Wx::Wizard which works fine, except when I want to have it in another language then english. The next / previous buttons are always in english. I asked on the wxuser list and it seems it has to be dealt with Wx::Locale, which is in wxPerl, but it seems that it lacks the Init function that would allow me to specify a language code (http://www.wxwindows.org/manuals/2.6.3/wx_languagecodes.html) so I can have the correct languages in the wizard. Is that exact or am I missing something ? Thank you Eriam |

What I really need is a Virtual TextCtrl. There are two problems with the ListCtrl: a) I can't copy and paste from the control b) I sometimes need to highlight part of the line in a different colour. Assuming your data is in lines, why not use a Virtual ListCtrl? Fetch the rows from the file that you need as you need them (maybe use IO::All or one of the Tie modules). Do you *have* to have the entire 10 MB file loaded into the TextCtrl at once? or could you just load what the user is seeing at that point in time? Peter Gordon wrote: > Yes. I have a 10MB file which I am trying to load using wxTextCtrl, and I am using wxPerl. I have a string $text, which contains the complete text, and the offending line is: $self->AppendText($text) ; On Windows, the load time is 5 secs. On Fedora 5, the load time is 15 secs if I set LANG=C and 85 secs if I set LANG=en_US.UTF-8. Does anyone know if there is a faster way to load text, using this widget or a different widget or do I have an intrinsic problem with gtk? Thanks, Peter |

I am using Fedora 5 with wxWdigets 2.6.3 and Wx-0.57
I have enclosed a program with an xrc file. Points 3 and 4 are the
most important.
1. Why do I need "use Wx::XRC" if I have "use Wx qw(:everything)"
2. There is a often a double free in libc when debugging. It doesn't
always happen.
$ENV{MALLOC_CHECK_} = 0 stops the complaint.
3. In the program supplied:
a) Using Menu/Load, it takes 5 seconds to load 5000 lines into a
text control.
Is there anything that I can do to speed this up? Is there a
control that can do this faster? I often need to load files
having tens of thousands of lines.
b) Using Menu/Test List Ctrl:
The line
$list->SetColumnWidth(1,-1) ;
causes the error below. The documentation says that the -1 will
force the header column to be the size of the data

I have a wxTextCtrl and I want to trap the left button, but I want the cursor to be in the position the user pointed to. Hi. Attached are two files. One is a Perl program which a) defines MyTextCtrl as a subclass of wxTextCtrl b) installs an XRC handler c) initializes the handlers d) tries to lookup a Window using FindWindow e) fails to get a handle The XRC was created using DialogBlocks with a small, but necessary change. DialogBlocks defines the class wxTextCtrl, with a subclass of MyTextCtrl. Perl does not like this. It seems to insist that the class itself be MyTextCtrl. (Is this a wxPerl issue or a DialogBlocks issue?) The major problem is that the lookup on the window, ID_TEXTCTRL, fails. If the class name in the xrc file is changed back to wxTextCtrl, the program does not complain, so I don't think it is the result of a typo. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Peter |

The point is wxGtk remains the same as it was for Wx-0.26. So I do not understand
why now build script(s) for Wx-0.57 complain.

line bothers me very much because it looks like a problem in Perl's binary guts.
Maybe I'll install newer ExtUtils::MakeMaker - currently the version is

and/or try it on a different machine - that other one has Perl v 5.8.8 and my attempts
so far have been using Perl v 5.8.7.
Unfortunately, building Wx-Perl has become more difficult, and after addition of
Alien::<whatever> mechanism Makefile.PL is still needed, though the intent of
Alien::<whatever> mechanism is to get rid of the whole ExtUtils::MakeMaker and
Makefile.PL stuff altogether ...

You should only need:
cd contrib/src/stc
make
make install
in you wxGTK build script. This was needed for Wx-0.26 as well.

I've had the same problem on debian sarge. The trouble is that debian=20
will install multiple /usr/bin/gcc-x.x.x and makes a symlink=20
from /usr/bin/gcc to one of those.

Well, your symlink points to gcc-4. You should be able to install the=20
gcc-3.4 package without disrupting anything. Then just make sure that=20
the 'cc' and 'gcc' in your path are symlinked to that (use a temporary=20
path or whatever.) They may already be installed. gcc-3.3 will also=20
work if you have it handy.
Wow, it took me a while to figure that out. It might really help if=20
Alien/wxWidgets.pm told us what it found:

It appears that the available config version comes from g++, while the=20
requirement comes from gcc, so you'll need to set CC and CXX to play=20
nice together.
this works for me:

./Build
