Hello André, > Sorry to bother you with all my questions, but as I am new with > wxCode, there are a lot of small things I still do not master. Don't hesitate to ask. I'll try to answer as good as I can. (I have still to learn some of the administrative details, too.) > I read your comment about website. In fact, I never wrote the website > part of the component. I did not understood the part concerning the > update of the wxCode site. When you say that you have to run a > script to update the website, does it mean that each time I want to > modify my component website page, you will have to re-run that script > ? Well, when the wxCode project started SourceForge allowed to run cron jobs. The idea was, that each component maintainer maintains a webpage for his component in a subfolder 'website' of his component in SVN. The cron job copied the contents of those subfolders in SVN to the wxCode website. This was quite convenient since one had to deal only with a single location where to apply changes, namely SVN. Now that SourceForge doesn't allow cron jobs any more the process has to be done manually. The alternative would be that each component maintainer administrates his component's web pages within the wxCode website himself. Accessing the wxCode website should be possible for each registered maintainer via SFTP using host web.sourceforge.net and username <sf-userid>,wxcode (replace <sf-userid> by the maintainer's SourceForge user id) and his SourceForge password. It would require some effort and discipline from each maintainer, but would be certainly an option. What do the other component maintainers think about this? > The problem is that I do not know exactly how to fill this index.php > file (folder names, links, etc). Thus, if I have no way of testing it > before you run your script, I will probably have to bother you > several times before having something that works correctly... There are comments in the template and pointers to further documentation (although not all of it might be up-to-date). Example: Replace in the template MYCOMPNAME => wxEMail MYCOMPSUBDIR => email and inspect the corresponding files in other components. This should give you an impression what to do. In case of further questions just post on this list or send a private mail. Regards, Ulrich |

Hello Ulrich, Thanks for your fast answer. Sorry to bother you with all my questions, but as I am new with wxCode, there are a lot of small things I still do not master. I read your comment about website. In fact, I never wrote the website part of the component. I did not understood the part concerning the update of the wxCode site. When you say that you have to run a script to update the website, does it mean that each time I want to modify my component website page, you will have to re-run that script ? The problem is that I do not know exactly how to fill this index.php file (folder names, links, etc). Thus, if I have no way of testing it before you run your script, I will probably have to bother you several times before having something that works correctly... I will update all other stuff (library name in bakefile, upload of the doc on site, update of the links in wiki, forum, etc) as soon as possible, but it will probably take a few days as I am quite busy for the moment. Thanks for your help, Kind Regards, Brice On Sat, 22 Jan 2011 14:21:14 +0100, Ulrich Telle <ulr...@gm...> wrote: > Hello André, > >> The proposed name in SVN is fine for me. > > Ok. And wxCode is certainly a place where people are already used to search for wxWidgets components. > I don't care which version ends up in wxCode, as long as some version > gets there, because I think the control is useful. Right. Of course I would prefer a version which is _maintained_. > I did note, however, that the poster of the source code mentions > that the original code was found on the net, without specifying what > the original licensing scheme was. That's one of the reasons why it's good to check those 2 other implementations. The license scheme of the wxCode components should be clearly defined (preferably it should follow the wxWindows (aka wxWidgets) license scheme). > I derived my control from the source code for a generic wxSpinCtrl, > and I'm willing to release my contributions under the wxWindow's > license so that there shouldn't be any licensing issue with my code. Very good. (Certainly every author is free to choose whatever license he prefers, but it's nice to have most wxCode components under the wxWindows license.) As soon as I receive notice from you how to proceed in respect of the first mentioned other implementation I'll set up your component in wxCode. Regards, Ulrich |

Hello Ulrich, I contacted the author of the first implementation you mentioned, and he responded that it's been a while since he used it, but that he should be able to find it, and he'll send me a copy. Once I have a copy I'll let you know how our versions match up feature-wise. With respect to the second implementation you mentioned, I compiled it, and it seems similar to my version. There are a few minor cosmetic and behavioral differences, but the two are comparable. Honestly, I wish I had known about this version before I went ahead and implemented mine. I think that shows, though, that it's important to have useful code in a place where people can easily find it. I don't care which version ends up in wxCode, as long as some version gets there, because I think the control is useful. I did note, however, that the poster of the source code mentions that the original code was found on the net, without specifying what the original licensing scheme was. I derived my control from the source code for a generic wxSpinCtrl, and I'm willing to release my contributions under the wxWindow's license so that there shouldn't be any licensing issue with my code. Thanks for taking the time to evaluate my request. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need additional information. Hello André, > The proposed name in SVN is fine for me. Ok. I renamed your component's SVN repository from 'smtp' to 'email'. Please update the template 'index.php' in your component's website folder to reflect the name, location, purpose etc. of your component and inform me if you're done, since I have to manually execute an update script to reflect the changes on the wxCode website. Unfortunately SourceForge doesn't allow cron jobs to perform such tasks automatically. I would prefer option 2 (release in one single component). Renaming a component is possible although it requires some manual steps to synchronize wxCode's repository, web site and database. Which new component name would you like to have? From my point of view wxEMail would be ok. For the SVN repository I would drop the wx prefix and name the folder just "email". If no one comes up with a better name we could perform the name change within the next week. Regards, Ulrich |

Dear Francesco, hi all, I'd like to thank you, Francesco, for your great job as wxCode administrator over several years now. You always were willing to lend a helping hand whenever a wxCode contributor needed assistance. I'll try to tread in your footsteps as well as I can. Please allow some time to let me get myself acquainted with the administrative tasks which need to be done to keep wxCode up and running. I'm very grateful, that you, Francesco, offered to help me during my first steps in taking over the wxCode's administrator role. Once again: Thank you very much, Francesco! I wish you all the best for your PhD and for your future! To all wxCode developers: Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or suggestions regarding the future of wxCode or any other wxCode topic. Although I'm quite busy with my job, I'll try to always respond within a reasonable timeframe. Regards, Ulrich |

Dear all, I just released the new version of wxSMTP. It now includes support for POP3 protocol. This is still a pre-release and shall still be tested on various platforms, with different configurations. Major modifications are : - pop3 protocol support - full support of mime format, thanks to the integration of the mimetic project. - partial encoding support for various charsets (shall be still completed for support for sent mails) - remodeling of the API for an integration of POP3 protocol. It is provided with two samples : one for example of SMTP protocol usage, and the second for POP3 usage. I am still waiting for an approval of renaming of the project. I really think that wxSMTP is now no more valid, as this project hanldes other mail protocol. I think that wxEMail would be more appropriate. I also have problems with SourceForge release mechanism. The one explained in the Maintainer Guide of wxCode site is no more valid. When users click on the 'dowload' button of the wxSMTP project page of the wxCode site, they do not go to proper download page of sourceForge site. Regards, Brice André |

Hi all, Sorry for all questions I could not reply recently on this mailing list. Sorry for the components which have been submitted and are still pending review and approval. Sorry for the lack of support in the last months. Anyway I'm now happy to announce everyone that we've got a new administrator which I'm sure will do well: Ulrich Telle. I will try to help him as best as I can in the next period, after which I think I will resign completely from my administrator role of this project. wxCode has been a very nice experience for me. It seems yesterday to me that I proposed to the original administrator, Otto Wyss, some website changes and then actually became the new administrator, together with John Labenski. At that time I had lot of free-time (specially if compared with my current spare time!)... I was very active in wxWidgets mailing lists and in wxWidgets development, I worked a lot on bakefile, the build system of all wx-based stuff, I completed two Google Summer of Code contests, etc etc. Lots of things have happened since then... years passed by... and I'm now quite busy with PhD, with work, girlfriend and so on :) I still use wxWidgets whenever I have to do some GUI project and sometimes I take a look at wx-dev (mainly to check that Vadim, Julian, Robert etc are still there pushing on this great project!) but unfortunately I'm unable to actively partecipate in it for now. Maybe in the future I will be able again to put some efforts in it. So, good luck to Ulrich for his new role in this project (actually he's been around in the wxWidgets community since a long time, too!!) and let's have fun with wxWidgets and wxCode still for a long time to come :) Bye, Francesco 2010/11/28 Francesco <f18...@ya...>: > Hi all, > in the next foreseeable future (say 2 years) I'll be very busy (I'm > taking a PhD)... Hi not sure what component this is about. Does anybody recognize his/her cherished component ? Hi Paul --and welcome to the wxCode community! You are not violating any regulation that I am aware of :-) Setup of new components is manual and our admin (Francesco) is quite busy these days (or might be on holidays for all I know). So just give it a few weeks and I'm sure he'll get back to you! Hello, At the suggestion of the "component submission results" page that I was directed to after I submitted my component, I am writing this to inform the wxCode administrators that I just submitted a component called "TimePickerCtrl". I apologize if I am violating any mailing list etiquette--this is my first posting to this list, and I am not very familiar with mailing lists. The submission form never asked me to upload any of my components. Am I supposed to have a sourceforge page for them? If so, I'd be happy to set one up. Or I can provide the files in an attachment to anyone who wants to evaluate them. Thanks for your consideration. --Paul Breen |

Hi André I also vote for a single component, like you wrote it is unlikely that somebody would want only one out of three sub-components. I can imagine situations where an application only needs to send automated emails and so does not need the POP3 part, but hey: this is a library to build GUIs, therefore one can expect an end-user and not an automated service. Those were my 2 cents, but the call is Francesco's of course! Dear all, When I first submitted the wxSMTP component to the wxCode project, my willing was to release short after a wxPOP3 component, which would allow every wxWidgets users to add mail functionality to their application. I now have implemented a first version of POP3 protocol, but I am facing a small problem in making the new component. A big part of the code implementing POP3 protocol is common to the SMTP component code (mainly MIME management code + some utilities). So, I have two options : 1. I release a total of three components (MIME, POP3 and SMTP) with dependancies between modules and the central component (MIME one) that will probably never be used alone. 2. I release everything in one single component. I think the second option is the best one, but it would request changing the name of the freshly created component wxSMTP to something like wxEMail and I am a little bit ashamed asking renaming the component a few weeks after having released it... I don't know i you have any suggestions about this ? If second option is prefered, is it possible to rename a component ? Regards, Brice André |

Hello Francesco, I performed my first release of the component. Everything seems to be ok, but I have two minor issues : 1. When I click on the 'download' button on the wxCode web site, the download page opened on the sf site is the one of the wxsqlite component. I tried with different directories names for my component (wxSMTP and smtp), but it does not change anything. 2. There is a wiki page (http://wiki.wxwidgets.org/WxSMTP) for my component. I tried to activate the wiki section on the wxCode site, but I cannot specify the URL of this wiki section and so, there is no link to this wiki page.
