So you want new menu items to hide/show only unique folders, not folders and files.
This sounds interesting. Though I'm not sure useful this separation of files and folders is. I'd say we don't want this for coming 2.8 release as the current GUI has been working for years already and this kind of changes may cause more confusion than really help. But we need to re-think about this idea after 2.8 release. So I'm setting resolution to 'later' now.
By the way, you can hide those .svn folders (or .cvs etc) by using file filters. Select "Visual C++ loose" or "Exclude Source Control" -filter from Open-dialog.
