Not sure what you are talking about, its NOT working. I get "USB Is write
protected" when using that HP utility, or any windows utility. That win32
imager BUSTED my drive. Deleted the table/format so its a mini brick at
this point. Gee thanks a lot

#43This has been assked and answered numerous times. See our FAQ at https://answers.launchpad.net/win32-image-writer/+faqs.
To recover your drive, I recommend the HP USB Formatter utility. Eventually I will figure out how to roll a quick partition table generator into Win32DiskImager so that Windows can reformat it.
That didn't work. I downloaded the HP tool and get the same error "DEVICE IS WRITE PROTECTED" something that WIn 32 Imager killed my PNY 32 GIG USB. Gee thanks a ton. How do I fix this? Anyone?
Honestly, there is NO way that Win32DiskImager can destroy your USB. It uses the same mechanisms Windows uses to read/write raw data when scanning a device.
Having said that, one possiblity that I have personally seen is on a USB3 Corsair Flash Voyager (8G), I had the flash device micro controller lose it's firmware. This was a known issue from Corsair. They replaced it for free. The device failed when copying a file to the drive to move to a non-networked system. Win32DiskImager wasn't involved (but I had several people open bugs regardless).
There are a lot of other utilities online to recover from this. A quick google search brought up several solutions. I wish I could help more.
Well it did otherwise I wouldn't be posting. There is an option for writing the image to the USB and some warning comes up..... how come others post the same thing.

#43Windows not detecting the device and another utility not detecting the device are two entirely separate issues. If Windows worked properly, there wouldn't be utilities like the HP Flash Formatter which was developed specifically for this issue. Win32DiskImager doesn't currently support recovering, but it may in a future release (just not the coming 1.0 - feature freeze). The issue here is that my utility is writing an image to the raw device, which overwrites the partition table. This causes Windows to have issues (see https://answers.launchpad.net/win32-image-writer/+faq/2723). But if, as you said, the HP Utility can't recover the device, then there is an issue with the device itsself (as I described earlier with my Corsair). It is that part of the issue that Win32DiskImager can't be responsible for, as I am using the same functionality that Windows uses to format the device or use as a Ready Boost device.
I fix the problem with this video, converting to GPT then to MBR then clean, but try with the same way.
