Since feature requests are disabled, I'm asking here instead. This utility would be much more useful if it did two things:
Only copied sectors with data. I.E: 32GB SD card with 2GB of data, the resulting image file should be ~2GB NOT 32GB! Do not add empty space to images please.
Compress resulting image on the fly. I.E: similar to what Symantec Ghost does to all drive images by default when wrting an image to hard disk for backup.
Without these changes my hard drive is filling up with 32GB images from my various Raspberry Pi's that are 90% emply space. This fills up drives very fast especially when combined with all the other bloat that Windows already creates. Please consider adding at lease the first feature if possible. As an added incentive, I could tip you some bitcoin. Thank you.
Not sure why feature requests are disabled.
As to this specific issue, I believe code was added post-0.95 release. Unfortunately, I have had less than 0 time to do coding in the last year (outside of work). I am hoping to take a vacation soon, during which I hope to get caught up on several things, and get a 1.0 release out before EOY.
Ok, this is partially complete. There are actually two separate requests here:
I am already looking into image compression. I have a few key requirements that I need to test different methodologies with before I can make a final implementation decision. But we're currently over 10 million downloads with v0.9.5 and 2+ years since any release. And my development time for this go around is shrinking rapidly. I'm marking this as closed, as both of these requests are tracked separately in Feature Requests.
Hi Tobin:
I look forward to the new release and features! :-)
