I posted this to the list yesterday but I don't think it made it..? The import feature in 1.1 is cool, but I still have to import all 300 one at a time? I was hoping it could import from domains in /etc/named.conf. I can also create a list of domains with users and the other import settings very easily if needed. 1. The import thing is a biggy. 2. On a domain import, I think it'd be better to specify mail access, web server, mysql, dns, etc there instead of importing and then having to go back and change it. This whole import thing is very important, are we unique in that the first thing we need to do is import lotsa domains? 3. I don't know the Unix users password. Can this be not set and it will authenticate from passwd? 4. On "Create Webmin login to manage server?", this is actually the Usermin login not Webmin right? --- Not import related, but I assume giving people DNS access will work if DNS is on other server? They all have Webmin and are clustered. Right now it's on a mail/ns1/web server but we plan on splitting that into 3 servers. |

Give the 1.102 development release from www.webmin.com/devel.html a try .. it may fix the problem editing .conf files, assuming that you are doing this editing in the File Manager. As for the login problem, what exact error message are you seeing when you attempt to login? Or does the login form just appear again? - Jamie On Fri, 2003-08-01 at 09:52, be...@ge... wrote: > Hi...I've been having lots of troubles with webmin latly. And then on my redhat 7.3 box everything works fine... Um...what's up? Previously on my redhat 8 box webmin worked perfectly... Is it the latest release? or maybe something with miniserv? I am haveing probs with suse 8.2, I see webmin running in the runlevel editor, just can't get localhost:10000.. I can get to SWAT at :901 just fine, but since I am new to suse and redhat, mandrake, and debian all crashed on install over my via vt8233a chip I have to stick with suse to run at all. Also if anyone knows of any sites with suse tips and tricks, please let me know. Newest version of webmin tried with and without suse patch from homepage. Did netstat and see nothing on port 10000, other ideas? Thanks for suggestions. Mike __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mike; Try https://localhost:10000 or https:127.0.0.1:1000 . SuSE defaults to using SSL when you install webmin with SuSE. Let me know if that works for you. Also, you might; rpm -q webmin to verify tht you got it installed in the first place. You seem to be having some issues with installation as well. Good luck. Jim Remember Jerry James F. Firstly I ran Usermin under it's miniserv and everything was OK Then i've tried to run usermin under apache and there was problem with auhentication (after making all described in http://webmin.com/uapache.html): 1. Apache runs as user Apache of group apache 2. I get proper login box and log in as existing user and password (let assume johnsmith ) 3. Next i get proper menu of usermin 4. I click "check email" and see: Failed to create /home/rbrozyna/.usermin : Permission denied 5. When I try to change my password I get: Error while chcanging password: /usr/bin/passwd failed : Changing password for user apache . <- I think it should be johnsmith Changing password for apache <- as well (current) UNIX password: passwd: Authentication token manipulation error My os is Redhat 9 (kernel 2.4.20) What am I doing wrong? Or should I install something else? best regards Rafal Brozyna |

Hey. We ran into this as well... At least I think I know what you're seeing... Make sure your server has FQDN (and it's reversable) and in your hosts file put it's address with the FQDN and any aliases... I think I said that right... Also, make sure it's address is above (before) the 127.0.0.1 line. Like this: the-server-IP-here the-FQDN-here servername-here 127.0.0.1 servername-here localhost.localdomain localhost HTH. To change the SMTP server that Usermin sends mail via, you can do the following : - Login to Webmin, and go to the Usermin Configuration module. - Click on Usermin Module Configuration. - Click on Read Mail. - Change the 'Send mail via connection to' field to your system's ethernet IP address (or the hostname of some other SMTP server). - Jamie RAHUL T. Hi everyone, Webmin version 1.130 is now available for download from http://www.webmin.com/ and mirror sites. This release includes the following changes : * Added the Log File Rotation module, for configuring logrotate. * Added ability to compress MySQL and PostgreSQL backups. * Included the begginings of a new ui-lib.pl library for generating common Webmin UI elements. * The Disk Quotas module can now display in kilobytes instead of blocks, on systems when the block size is known. * Better MD5 encryption handling in the Users and Groups module, including support for FreeBSD. * The Users and Groups module now works out UIDs and GIDs at creation time, rather than when the new user or group for is displayed. * A bunch of other minor enhancements and bug fixes. Also available is Usermin 1.060, which includes the following changes: * Ported the Protected Web Directories module for managing .htaccess files from Webmin to Usermin. * Added a field for doing a quick subject and sender search to the Read Mail module, as well as a form for doing an advanced multi-field and folder search. * Added support for address groups to the address book in the Read Mail module. * Added a Preferences page option in the Read Mail module to enable a Trash folder, into which deleted messages are moved. * Added the ability to decode winmail.dat files and delivery-status bounce information attachments to the Read Mail module. * In the GnuPG encryption module, secret keys can now be exports, and you can choose to export the key to a file instead of the browser. As always, please send me any bug reports or feature suggestions that you might have. - Jamie |

I am running FreeBSD 4.8 and Webmin 1.130. For the first time today I edited the group permissions on my server with webmin. (Edit Group> Upon Save> Change group ID on files > Home directories> Save) Approximately 4 hours later I noticed that all ssh connections are being refused. Webmin said sshd was still running, after checking my settings I clicked 'Apply changes' and then noticed the start server button was now available. I clicked Start server and got the following error message: "Failed to start SSH server : Privilege separation user sshd does not exist" I've had problems with webmin truncating my password file in the past after editing users (and I found at least one other user on this list with a similar problem). However, I don't know if this problem actually has anything to do with Webmin or if it is just a coincidence. What does the above error message mean, and how can I use webmin to fix it? Thank you to Jamie Cameron, Joe Cooper, and everyone else who contributes to this awesome project. Webmin has changed the way I manage servers. Jeremy Bandini |

Ok, in an attempt to fix the session_login problem of the login showing in two frames, or after relogging in, one frame not refreshing properly...I have the following: in my theme config I have "two" headinclude lines..I don't know if this is legal, but it "appears" to work: headinclude=config.css headinclude=framecheck.inc framecheck.inc has the following in it: <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> passpage = document.URL if (top.location == self.location) if (! (self.location == "session_login.cgi")) if (document.URL.match("aim_")) top.location.href="/index.cgi?" + passpage </script> index.cgi in the theme contains the following: #!/usr/bin/perl ########################################################################### # # Autors: Deepen V. Dhulla <de...@de...> # Peter N. Hrebicek <pe...@ch...> # ############################################################################ require './web-lib.pl'; &init_config(); $hostname = &get_system_hostname(); $ver = &get_webmin_version(); if ($gconfig{'real_os_type'}) { $ostr = "$gconfig{'real_os_type'} $gconfig{'real_os_version'}"; } else { $ostr = "$gconfig{'os_type'} $gconfig{'os_version'}"; } &PrintHeader(); print <<"EOF"; <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <title>Webmin</title> </head> <!-- <frameset border="0" cols="295, *" frameborder="0"> <frame name="nav" target="main" src="navigate.cgi"> <frame name="content" src="home.cgi"> </frameset> --> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> origURL = parent.document.URL contentURL = origURL.substring(origURL.indexOf('?')+1, origURL.length) document.write('<frameset border="0" cols=295, *" frameborder="0"><frame src="na vigate.cgi" name="nav" target="main" ><frame src=\"' + contentURL + '\" name="content"><\/fr ameset>') </script> </html> EOF I have modified session.cgi by inserting the following line at line 32: print "<script>\nif (window != window.top) {\n window.top.location = window.location;\n }\n</script>\n"; What it does: session_login.cgi is now always appropriately loaded as top window. Bugs: Ocassionaly the "main" frame becomes the top window. When the session expires, and you click on something, I can here the reload "click" happening for about 10 seconds and can see the URL being modified rapidly for the entire time. Eventually you get to the session_login screen. Any ideas on how to fix this? (I had assumed that sometimes for some reason, the call to &header is not including the javascript..but upon html code inspection it is called, but apparently ignored.) Hello Webmin/Usermin gurus, I have a very curious situation with a new server install of: Webmin 1.170 and Usermin 1.100. I have been using Webmin/Usermin nearly pain free for close to 4 years. I am building a new Mandrake 10.1 server to replace my current RH7.2. All-is-well with the new server except for my current Usermin 1.100 install. It will only work from the non SSL URL (http://127.0.0.1:20000). If I attempt to use the following URL (https://127.0.0.1:20000) to access Usermin I get the following odd error condition: The connection to 127.0.0.1:20000 has terminated unexpectedly. Some data may have been transferred. The webmn URL works perfectly: https://127.0.0.1:10000 on the same machine. Running tail -f on /var/log: messages, secure, httpd/error.log show no more information. The Webmin configuration of Usermin matches the same as on the RH7.2 box but only the RH server is operating both Webmin and Usermin under SSL as expected. The Mandrake box fails while attempting to connect to the Usermin server. Webmin configuration shows the Usermin server is running (also PS). Please advise, David. <p><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2" style="font-size:13.5px">_______________________________________________________________<BR>Get the FREE email that has everyone talking at <a href=http://www.mail2world.com target=new>http://www.mail2world.com</a><br> <font color=#999999>250MB & 2GB Email Accounts POP3 Calendar SMS Translator - Much More!</font> </font> |

Hi all, I'm trying to get Postfix working with Webmin/Virtualmin on FreeBSD 5.3, and I'm having some problems... I've disabled sendmail as instructed in the install docs for the FreeBSD port of postfix: (in /etc/rc.conf) sendmail_enable="NONE" And made a symbolic link to the postfix executable so that it starts up at boot. And a ps ax reveals that it is indeed running. Webmin sees that it's running fine as well. However, in Virtualmin, it says my mail server is not running. I click "Re-check and refresh configuration," and it reports: Mail server Sendmail is installed and configured Which is patently false... and clicking "Start mail server" does nothing... I'm kind of stuck at the moment. Any advice? Thanks! - ben |

I'm kind of stuck at the moment. Any advice? You need to tell Virtualmin that Postfix is being used as the mail server. To do this, click on Module Config and change the mail server option to Postfix, then click Save. - Jamie |
