Thanks, that worked. Will webmin now start on boot? I commented that line out. Do I need to uncomment it back out after I make the ssl certificate? Also, the miniserv.pem is in the /usr/libexec/webmin directory. I haven't made a ssl cert yet. Its on the list. Again, thanks!! -----Original Message----- From: Jamie Cameron <jca...@we...> Sent: Monday, December 27, 2021 8:35 PM To: Webmin users list <web...@li...> Subject: Re: [webmin-l] Webmin won't start Looks like your SSL cert file is missing. Thanks, that didn't work for me either until I commented out the ssl=1 line in /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf as Jamie suggested in a later email. Looks like your SSL cert file is missing. The work-around would be to edit /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf and remove the ssl=1 line, then re-try restarting Webmin. - Jamie On 27/Dec/2021 12:45 TE Dukes <td...@pa...> wrote .. > Tried that also: > > [root@ts130 ~]# /etc/webmin/start > Starting Webmin server in /usr/libexec/webmin > Failed to open SSL cert /etc/webmin/miniserv.pem > Failed to create default SSL context at /usr/libexec/webmin/miniserv.pl line 284. > [root@ts130 ~]# > > I haven't gotten far enough to create the SSL cert. That perl module isn't strictly required, as Webmin can still use the "mysql" command to connect to the database and send queries. However, it's less reliable especially when querying complex tables, as Webmin has to parse the text output from the command. You can check if it's installed and working by SSHing in as root and running : perl -e 'use DBD::mysql' |

I installed MariaDB 10.6.x on Ubuntu 20.04, from the MariaDB repo. Webmin can access it, manage it, and so on. After having done a "refresh modules" and re-loading the Webmin interface, it also correctly shows "MariaDB Databas Server" in the left hand menu. But on the MariaDB Database Server page/screen, there's a warning message displayed: "Warning: The Perl module DBD::mysql is not installed on your system, so Webmin will not be able to reliably access your MariaDB database." Which is rather odd since it seems to be able to manage all the databases, tables, etc. just fine :-) The "libdbd-mariadb-perl" package is installed. I have now installed the "libdbd-mysql-perl" package as well, but the warning is still there (after a refresh, etc). (Webmin 1.983) -joho |

Shorewall module for latest stable version 5.2.8 on CentOS7 with Webmin 1.979 needs big update. Easiest way to solve those constant changes would be to put path to configuration files in Configuration For module Shorewall Firewall, but since that is not possible at the moment, here are list of tables and files that are at the moment obsolete for latest version: /etc/shorewall/tos This file defines rules for setting Type Of Service (TOS). Its use is deprecated, beginning in Shorewall 4.5.1, in favor of the TOS target in shorewall-mangle /etc/shorewall[6]/mangle /etc/shorewall/masq Support for the deprecated 'masq' file has been deleted. Any existing 'masq' file will automatically be converted to the equivalent 'snat' file /etc/shorewall[6]/snat /etc/shorewall/routestopped This file is deprecated in favor of the shorewall-stoppedrules(5) file /etc/shorewall[6]/stoppedrules /etc/shorewall/blacklist The use of this file is deprecated and beginning with Shorewall 4.5.7, the file is no longer installed. Beginning with Shorewall 4.4.25, the preferred method of blacklisting and whitelisting is to use the blrules file (shorewall-blrules (5)) /etc/shorewall[6]/blrules /etc/shorewall/route_rules Traffic to be routed to one of the providers listed in shorewall-providers is now in file /etc/shorewall[6]/rtrules Any info about Shorewall module update in Webmin roadmap? Thats why you need to save into those files your rules. iptables-save > /etc/iptables/rules.v4 ip6tables-save > /etc/iptables/rules.v6 But maybe need to refresh your knowledge and read about nftables <https://wiki.nftables.org/wiki-nftables/index.php/Moving_from_iptables_to_nftables>. Iptables is replaced by nftables, but you can use it his commands Joaquim Homrighausen <jo...@we...> ezt írta (időpont: 2021. nov. 25., Cs, 9:10): > On 2021-11-25 07:50, Jamie Cameron wrote: > > > > Ok, it looks like on Ubuntu 20, a separate package called > "iptables-persistent" > > has to be installed to get that bootup action. > > > Thanks. Will Webmin support the /etc/iptables/rules.v4 and /etc/iptables/rules.v6 files? That's what the package creates and uses. -joho |

Ok, it looks like on Ubuntu 20, a separate package called "iptables-persistent" has to be installed to get that bootup action. - Jamie |

But there is "webmin-ip6tables.service" and "webmin-iptables.service". (and then there are network-pre.target, network.target, and networkd-dispatcher.service) This is a "plain vanilla" Ubuntu 20.04, upgraded from Ubuntu 18.04. But I see this also on freshly deployed Ubuntu 20.04 systems. -joho |

anything? try to save your rules to iptables.up.rules maybe? Not sure if this has been posted here before, but we have a couple of Ubuntu 20.04.LTS servers where Webmin will *not* restore IPTABLES upon re-boot. If I go into Webmin > Networking > Linux Firewall, it says it should activate on boot time, but it won't. I can, naturally, do an iptables-restore < /etc/webmin/firewall/iptables.save, but it's not quite as "sexy" ;-) What am I doing wrong? -joho |
