I agree that this is a potential problem, but fortunately it doesn't seem to cause any trouble in reality as all browsers that I've seen can handle single-byte characters like =E4. The only proper solution would be for the default theme to convert all escaped entities into their single-byte format before rendering titles. This would be trivial if I could find a list of all HTML entities and their corresponding special characters .. - Jamie On Wed, 2003-09-10 at 16:27, Martin Mewes wrote: > Howdy folks, >=20 > Dieter from www.webmin.de pointed me to a problem which may come up if > we use named entities for things like >=20 > index_title=3DSSH/Telnet Login & & & & =E4 =F6 =FC =DF >=20 > Please review >=20 > http://server.mamemu.de:30000/telnet/ >=20 > to actually see what he means. > You can also view the Mozilla-Screenshot here: > http://webmin.mamemu.de/trans-images/named-entities-in-title/image001.jpg >=20 > The title in the Old-Webmin-Theme is shown up as images. > In this case I tried to handle out which different browsers can work > best with various ways of HTML-entities for "&" for future common use > in all translations. >=20 > a) Well easiest thing would be to ged rid of the Old-Webmin-Theme ;-) > b) Is it possible to patch that theme in order to show things correct? >=20 > If we would leave that line "as is" like >=20 > index_title=3DGeplante Cron-Auftr=E4ge >=20 > things will show up correct in the Old-Webmin-Theme, but may not if > the title is shown as simple text. >=20 > Hope I pointed out the problem right. >=20 >=20 > kind regards >=20 > Martin Mewes >=20 > --=20 > Novacote Flexpack - Division of COIM Deutschland GmbH > c/o IT/IS-Department - Hamburg - Germany >=20 >=20 > ------------------------------------------------------- > This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek > Welcome to geek heaven. > http://thinkgeek.com/sf > - > Forwarded by the Webmin development list at web...@we... > To remove yourself from this list, go to > http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/webadmin-devel |
