Most modern Linux distributions are an excellent choice. For servers, choose one that has a long lifecycle. The recommendations I would make are probably (in order): CentOS (or RHEL if you want to spend some money), Debian, Ubuntu LTS (do not choose non-LTS releases of Ubuntu for server usage; the life cycle is too short). As for compatibility, Webmin is compatible with pretty much everything. It gets the most testing on popular Linux distributions, though, so it's probably most compatible with the systems I mentioned, and probably in the order I listed them.
