There are three steps to creating a partition with a filesystem : 1) Create the partition, which should typically take up the whole disk. On a brand-new disk there will typically be no partitions, so you need to use the 'Add primary partition' link to create one. But sometimes the disk will ship with a Windows partition already, and you have to change the type of it to Linux. 2) Create an EXT3 filesystem on the partition. This can be done by clicking on the number (typically 1) and clicking the 'Create New Filesystem' button. 3) Mounting the filesystem, which can be done in the Disk and Network Filesystems module. - Jamie |
