I guess it's time to start looking at the individual files. Can you post named.conf and the zone file for 
bear.net from the master name server for starters? The master server is going to have to be configured 
to allow zone transfers no matter what you do with the slave (secondary server) so you may as well 
make sure that that master server is set up properly first.
