This sounds like a job for ransom ware. ;-) Jamie, you should figure out how much time/effort it will take you to code Virtualmin and put a price on it. We can all start dropping our change (because this is generally only useful to commercial entities, I would expect 'change' here to mean increments of $100 or at least $50) into the bucket until we've reached the specified amount. When the amount contributed starts getting within a few hundred or a thousand bucks or something you could send out beta releases to contributors to get feedback and bug reports. When the price point is reached, you could release it under a license similar to Webmin and Usermin. I'll happily drop some funds into the bucket come payday. Just an opinion, of course. I figure if you're going to be spending so much time on something (and taking on yet another big project) you ought to be certain of getting paid well for it. And in this way, you can decide how much time you can afford to devote to the project based on how much folks are willing to pay for it. I think we all understand that Webmin development is subsidized by your paid development work on Webmin/Usermin/etc. so if we're to steal you away on a new whim it ought to be subsidized by the folks who want it. Given the number of emails I've seen on the subject I'm sure many folks would find it a very valuable competitor to Plesk/Ensim/etc. I certainly would find uses for it, and I can't think of anyone I would trust more to create such a tool (I would hesitate to donate to some random hacker who proposed writing such a tool--but I know Jamie could do it faster and better than most, and wouldn't disappoint us with a half-functional tool with more bugs than features).
