Its GPL - So, its free ... provided modifications you make to it are also made available for free! The policing of such a lisence is obviously a difficulty. The source PHP scripts are completely availalble and modifiable for whatever purpose you wish. Manufacturing functionality is very incomplete as things stand. I would say that it is more suited to distribution currently. Any manufacturing or re-manufacturing scripts you come up with I would be interested in incorporating into the distribution. Suggestions for mods that better suit your application I would also be interested in. I had question about the licensing for Web-ERP. Is it free?? and if so can the source php files be modified to fit your application better (i.e. set it up for a Re-manufacturing Plant as opoosed to the Manufacturing/Distribution Company it is setup for now). Thanks Chris "Knowledge is free, its the stupidity that costs the most" |

There is no problem using alternative databases. The SQL script may need some modifications I have not tried it. Certainly references to table types etc are peculiar to MySQL whether this would cause an issue with Firebird I am not sure - maybe it would just be ignored. Of course you would need to modify the database specific functions which are all included in the file ConnectDB.inc from the MySQL ones to the Firebird ones. This is the only file you would need to modify. The only issue I think you might encounter in editing this file is with the function function DB_Last_Insert_ID(&$Conn){ return mysql_insert_id($Conn); } I am not sure but I think this function may be specific to mysql and may need a little thought in how to get the id of the last record inserted returned set up in different databases. Once you have modified the ConnectDB.inc and the SQL script to work with the Firebird database it would be nice to include these with the distribution for other users. Similarly with any modifications to the table structure, I am keen to incorporate any improvements in the system for all users. It is fine to modify the table structure, but of course this can have nasty results where the field is required elsewhere. If you have a specific modification in mind I may be able to identify any potential issues you may have. Phil Daintree |

Well - I guess it would help if I would read the messages on the mailing list <grin> The default shipper was set at 10 in config.php, I (of course) started at 1 and added all my shippers (only 9 of them, naturally). Yes the AccessLevel is a session variable read from the users login. Each page has a test to see if the users accesslevel is greater than a required minimum level. This arrangement is not as flexible as a complete access profile by function for each user put does allow some control. You can see the accesslevel required when you view the text of a script. I am working on the documentation to explain this. Phil Regards Phil Daintree Dux Industries Ltd Ph: +64 (04) 567 8900 Fax: +64 (04) 567 8904 |

Dear Mr. Daintree, First of all I would like to congratulate for such a good program it has all the features that I allways needed. No this is the way I installed it, I hope that it helps to other new users of web-erp. I installed RH 8.0 from the CD's that came with the Book "A Practical Guide to Red Hat Linux 8" (I haven't used linux since 1996); and I selected the server installation and in the packages I chose the already inc luded Apache, Mysql, Php which as I see so far are fully compatible with web-erp. After finishing the installation I logged in to the computer (linux, not web-erp yet) and I copied the compressed file of web-erp to the folder /var/www/html and I decompressed the file so web-erp was installed in /var/www/html/web-erp. After that I went to server settings: services and I activated the apache and the mysql. Then I went to System Tools: Terminal. and I did as in the instructions file: shell> mysql -u root mysql (I pressed enter) mysql> SET PASSWORD FOR root=PASSWORD('new_password'); (I pressed enter) then this is important: mysql> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO "web-erp"@localhost IDENTIFIED BY 'some_pass' WITH GRANT OPTION;(I pressed enter) Please note the "" on the side of the web-erp and consult your mysql manual, if you don't do it the same way as above your sql sentence will give an error message. After that I stopped the mysql (serve settings: services) and I went to /etc/my.cnf (tip if you don't file a file in your RH 8.0 use the search tool, because depending on the version of apache, php, mysql that you are using the files might change folder); and I added the following line under [mysqld] default-table-type=innodb. Then you modify config.php which is in /var/www/html/web-erp web-erp instead of weberp_db_user some_pass instead of weberp_db_pwd After all this you can finally run the scripts as it says in install.txt. shell > mysql --user=web-erp --password='some_pass' < /path_to_the_sql_script/web-erp-demo.sql or shell > mysql --user=web-erp --password='some_pass' < /path_to_the_sql_script/web-erp-new.sql Restart your computer Type localhost/web-erp/index.php and you should be happy to see web-erp running in your computer. Please do not forget to verify that apache, mysql, php are running, and that there is 1 rpm that connects mysql to php. If you are runing web-erp in a LAN and you don't know your IP address you can go to System tools: terminal and type ifconfig -a. I hope this will help to others to install web-erp. ___________________________________________________ Which tennis player was stabbed in 1993 while playing against Magdaleena Maleeva in the Citizen Cup? Al, Yes you can import data into Mysql using access. First you need to download the mysql odbc driver and install it. Then create a DSN from the control panel manage ODBC data sources. You can then attach the mysql tables in an access database. Using append queries in access you can add the data you have in access tables into the mysql system tables. Of course there are no guaranttees about data integrity doing this! HTH Thanks for the note about the redundant logicworks.ini file referred to on the web site. Will fix up when I get home. Alright! Web-ERP is installed on my test box (a dual 233 pentium box). I had a little problem with the instructions on the web site - they say to modify the logicworks.ini file, however, there wasn't such a file after the install. After taking a look at the error messages, it became apparent that I needed to modify the file called config.php. Now, a different question - is there a good way to import data from my existing accounting package (Peachtree) into the MySQL database? Peachtree can output comma separated values, and these are easy enough for me to modify and change about in Access. I'm not looking for a step by step answer, just something to get me started in the right direction. Thanks! ================================ Al Adcock Information Technologies Manager BMC Technologies 440 West 11th Street Panama City, FL 32401 Tel: 850-249-2222 Fax: 850-249-2226 http://www.bmctechnologies.com ICQ: 179154 |

Hi Al, You don't need to get into Linux to use the system, you can get both Apache, MySql and PHP for windows. This maybe less painful than learning Linux if it is completely new to you. Although for a more industrial - less breakable system Linux should is recommended. Henry, thanks for your comments regarding the printing of purchase orders. Of course purchase orders could create html printable purchase orders, this would need an additional page to be coded. I will add this to the to do list. With respect to the printing off of purchase orders on the windows machine, this sounds like a configuration issue. The pdf.dll needs to be copied to the system directory and enbled in the php.ini I can't remember the details exactly. I feel sure there must be a chinese font that could be compiled in to pdflib. If this is possible it would be interested to know. I think pdflib is very worthwhile although it would of course be ideal if it were full GPL. Thanks, Phil - Not a problem, as later I noticed the demo version wasn't the latest version anyway. I'll be attempting to install as soon as I put together a test box. Phil, I want to print purchase order 1 from my web-erp linux host, but the result page is blank. (client is win98 +IE 6+ Adobe PDF Acrobat 3.01 ) For comparison, I can use red linux 8.0 + mozilla to print purchase order 1, it will pop up windows with xpdf. Although the Chinese characters are still not showed correct. You can see my web-erp demo site http://211.20.11.131/weberp I found invoice printing can be printed with pure web page. Can the purchase order printing have same function? It will exempt the needs to buy commercial pdflib license from pdflib.com. > Al, > > Printing of reports in the demo system hosted on sourceforge.net is not > available because the sourceforge PHP does not have pdflib installed. > The calls to the pdf functions will fail as you noted. Dear list members, Thanks for the feedback on the issues you have experienced. I have just uploaded the latest release. There are a few fixes for issues= as=20 reported on the list. The worst one reported by Henry - re: the error in=20 reporting the quantity on hand in the SelectProduct.php script.=20 Unfortunately, I couldn't see an obvious way to overcome this without=20 scrubbing the quantity demanded from open sales orders. I don't think thi= s is=20 a major problem since this shows on the main stock status enquiry if it i= s of=20 interest to the user. There are also a few new traps to prevent deletions to Shippers who may=20 already have been refered to on invoices created - this was causing one u= ser=20 to have problems printing invoices. Also, it was possible to delete a=20 location even though it was the default location for drawing stock from f= or a=20 defined customer branch. I forgot to modify the version number in config.php in the file I uploade= d but=20 it does have the latest files in it. Phil |

Hi Henry, Initially I thought you may have been looking at the quantity shown as in stock during the search for a part at order entry. This of course is only the stock quantity on hand in the location appropriate for drawing stock from for the branch of the customer placing the order. eg. A customer in Tapei orders and item - there is no point in showing the total on hand accross all locations - only the stock in Tapei would be shown - stock in the UK would not show. This is of course by design. However, on closer inspection, you are referring to the quantity shown during an item search which appears to be 3 times the proper amount, at least in the demo system - you have found a bug! Thanks for pointing this out. This is obviously a bad one, I will do a new release as soon as I can with this fixed. Hi Phil, When I select items and search products in stock category, I can get the stock item from specific category. I write down the number on 'On Hand' column. Then I press the stock code button to check stock status and it shows different number on hand. Actually the latter is correct. I check your demo site on sourceforge and find the same problem. Just a little bit confused. Thanks Henry |

Hi Henry, I can see that invoices have been created using shipper 10. I guess this must be the default shipping company set up in config.php - if the shipper 10 has been deleted then this leaves a problem no invoices can print. Perhaps there should be some check on this on printing invoices. Will fix this in the next release. I entered a shipping company 10 and the invoices now print fine. Thanks for pointing out the problem. Hi Phil, Thanks your quick response. Actually, all the invoices can't be printed out (Receivables->print Invoices or Credit Notes), but credit notes are OK. I visit your web-erp demo site on sourceforge and it indeed can print out invoice. Maybe you can try my web-erp demo site and find if anything wrong. http://211.20.11.131/weberp Thanks a lot Henry -- > Hi Henry, > > I would have thought that Chinese PDF should be possible - I guess > reformating of the invoice may be required though. > > The problem with the no invoice to print is new to me.
