I'm not sure about the answer to your question, but would recommend looking
at this site http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/. You can purchase a copy of the
program for a very reasonable rate and install it on your site. There are
many configuration options and I've used it specifically to generate
sitemaps for VuFind to crawl. Being able to ping them to Google and other
search engines is just gravy. It works very well and the developer is very
helpful when you have questions.
