Yes, I believe your theory about "s" and "t" is correct. - Demian ________________________________ From: Karla Smith [sm...@wi...] Sent: Thursday, February 21, 2013 4:24 PM To: Demian Katz Cc: <vuf...@li...> Subject: Re: Searching for terms with apostrophes Ah, that was it! When I searched for "stopwords" in my back emails, I found the thread from the previous time I asked about this issue. I was sure I had dealt with it and removed a bunch of stop words already, but apparently I never got past the "thinking about it" stage. So, why are "s" and "t" stopwords? Is that because otherwise solr would index and search for the "s" in "That's" or the "t" in "can't" separately from just searching for the stemmed "That" or "can"? The same problem that makes Stephen King’s “It” problematic to find. The first couple of comments on this JIRA ticket discuss the issue (and some possible solutions) in more detail: http://vufind.org/jira/browse/VUFIND-417 - Demian From: Karla Smith [mailto:sm...@wi...] Sent: Wednesday, February 20, 2013 5:46 PM To: vuf...@li...<mailto:vuf...@li...> Subject: [VuFind-Tech] Searching for terms with apostrophes Hi, I"m pretty sure this was discussed already, but the only thread I can find deals with title browse search…. AllField searches for the movie Thats My Boy (or even That's My Boy) don't return any relevant hits--only 1 completely unrelated title with a "thats" typo in the contents. I know one can put quotes around the whole string and get results, but we can't expect our patrons to know that. Especially, since once it is in quotes, it also needs the apostrophe. "Thats my boy" with quotes and w/o apostrophe returns no hits. I tried putting thats, that's in the synonym.txt file, but that doesn't seem to help.
