thank you both for your help...
It turned out that the 1891 port of my Aleph-server had been closed down quited
a bit since I last had a need for testing around and so when I tried to get a
query to that port via my browser on my PC I only got error-messages while my
vufind-server worked away merrily as a bee. ;-)

After my PC's IP-number was allowed to talk to the Aleph-server on that port
again, I finally could test again and everything cleared up fine. :-)
