Just for the record, our initial interface is using Pazpar2's web service API rather than Z39.50: http://www.indexdata.com/pazpar2/doc/pazpar2_protocol.html Perhaps this is not the best approach -- as I've said, I'm not really familiar with Z39.50 -- but it seemed like a simple entry point to the problem. - Demian ________________________________ From: Filipe MS Bento (UA) [fs...@ua...] Sent: Friday, September 21, 2012 8:36 AM To: Demian Katz; Hugo Agud; vufind-tech Cc: Christopher Hallberg; mpr...@he... Subject: RE: [VuFind-Tech] Developing Vufind: Sponsoring Ok, Demian, you win: VuFind 2.0 is the way! :) PS: meanwhile we have a lot of VF1.x installs that still need require some support… but you convinced me, develop for it is just wasting time… ok, I am going to do it as they do with drugs that cause dependence: gradually reduce the amount of coding for VF 1.3 and start up with small amounts of VF2/ZF2 and increase its dosage (yet I don’t know when that will be possible, hopefully soon). If find the time to install another staging server with VF2/ZF2, you can more than count with me for testing (I know some sources pretty well and know what to expect from them and also how to build a z39.50 proper query) and even have a look and add extras to the code, if possible or necessary. Subject: Re: [VuFind-Tech] Developing Vufind: Sponsoring Your timing is fortunate -- we're actually working on a Pazpar2 module for VuFind 2.0 right now. This is mainly intended as a proof of concept -- I think there may be some complexities to the problem of working with Pazpar2 that may not be fully addressed in the first iteration of code -- but we should at least have a mechanism for displaying Pazpar2 results inside VuFind within the next few weeks. I'm copying a couple of people on this message: Chris Hallberg, who is doing the first round of coding on the project, and Mohan Pradhan at HealthNet Nepal, who will be helping us test and refine the code (it is his use case that prompted the development). Perhaps you can join in and help with this effort, if only as another tester. Also, I'm not sure where you stand on VuFind 2.0 -- I think it is unlikely that we will backport this work to 1.x, as it is much more complex to support in the older code base. However, if you really need that, you might at least be able to reuse some of the low-level components from 2.0 (i.e. the Pazpar2 connector logic) to build something in 1.x. - Demian ________________________________ From: Hugo Agud [ha...@or...] Sent: Friday, September 21, 2012 4:00 AM To: vufind-tech Subject: [VuFind-Tech] Developing Vufind: Sponsoring Dear All We are small company that offer hosted solution over OpenSource software, one of the software we work with is Vufind and we have a real comittment with this Discovery, now I send this message to the communituy because we are overloaded and we wish to ask somebody to quote us a development for Vufind. We wish to integrate Vufind with Pazpar in order to let Vufind have a label to search among external resources ;) or even MasterKey... this is not a project for a current customer, just we think it could be great to have into vufind. This development will not be exclusive for us, we wish to share and donate to the community of users. If anybody is interested in this project, just send me a mail and tell me who you are in terms of Vufind developer and the expectes cost of developing it.
