Thanks for pointing this out -- "clear majority" was intended to mean "by a majority of two or more." I have added a clarification to the wiki to make this more explicit. This brings up a related issue -- right now, we have four out of seven votes for the same thing. If we get one more, we'll have a "clear majority." If that happens, do we want to consider the vote complete, or should we keep waiting for the remaining two votes? As written in the wiki, it seems we still have to wait. This may be a good thing -- the last person to contribute to the conversation might make a point that changes everybody's mind. On the other hand, it might just slow us down unnecessarily. Any thoughts on this? - Demian From: Barnett, Jeffrey [mailto:jef...@ya...] Sent: Monday, October 19, 2009 11:52 AM To: Demian Katz; vuf...@li... Subject: RE: [Vufind-admins] FW: Voting policy (was SearchObject Update) Not being an admin myself, I don't get a vote, but I do have a comment on the Voting policy as cited. The policy currently states "When a decision is put to a vote, the decision will be finalized when either: (a) All seven administrators have voted. or (b) A week has passed, at least four votes have been received, and there is a clear majority." My problem is with the notion of "clear majority". Three of four - probably yes, three of five - probably not. Four of seven - probably not. I suggest a clearer requirement of "by a majority of two or more". Just my $.02 |
