Very interesting and thanks for the info. I've avoided looking into it until Andrew's code was finished. Looks like I have some homework for the weekend :) Greg Pendlebury Electronic Services Officer (Systems Team) Division of Academic Information Services University of Southern Queensland Phone: +61 7 4631 1501 Fax: +61 7 4631 1841 -----Original Message----- From: Till Kinstler [mailto:kin...@gm...] Sent: Friday, 17 July 2009 7:01 PM To: vuf...@li... To say it clearly at this point again (I think Andrew posted it already some time back): All these AND and OR construction in the buildQuery() function of Solr.php will be pretty obsolete when the switch to Solr's DisMax handler is complete. You then may configure in solrconfig.xml which fields a search should query, apply weights to hits in those fields and even build clever matching rules like "if user submits up to 3 search terms, then all must match, if 4 to 7, one term may miss, from and and above 80 % of the search terms must match" or even more complicated things. Look at http://wiki.apache.org/solr/DisMaxRequestHandler (for these matching rules specifically at the mm parameter). I don't want to discourage you from putting energy into tuning buildQuery(), but keep in mind, these efforts may be obsolete soon.
