[VuFind-General] vufind already running?

I'm in early stages of installation, so lots of trial and error going 
on, plus I'm having to translate scripts from linux to solaris, but I 
have one peculiar problem with the vufind server.  It won't let me do a 
restart after changing the .ini file.  The message is "Already Running!" 
and is generated by this snippet of vufind.sh

but it's not!  In fact, I'm not even sure $JETTY_PID is set (can't echo 
from command line).  The installation instructions don't cover jetty 
configurations, and one set seems to assume a tomcat environment

Which is the correct instruction set, and how do I verify?
