Hello, I have seen a need for a better GUI in the "TODO" list, and I don't know if Yusuke plans on doing more compared to 9.x. But I would need some features like: - Select the clipping zone using my mouse (first need) - Edit features - Record / package and email feature so that it is possible to use vnc2swf as a standalone application like a "show me what you did". - More... For that, I started prototyping a new GUI for vnc2swf using wxwidgets (http://www.wxwidgets.org/)/ wxPython (http://www.wxpython.org/) and VisualWx (http://visualwx.altervista.org/). It has the great advantage of easing the creation of the GUI (graphically) as well as providing a native look on all operating systems (unlike TK or GTK). My first objective is to have the exact same level of features as the current GUI (as well as authorizing command line mode). Before I continue, I would like to ask on the mailing list: - If this choice is OK for Yusuke - What about hosting vnc2swf on Sourceforge, so that more users can help? - Other considerations? Thanks for a fantastic tool! Olivier. |

Hi Dag, I'm going to release a new version which is free from 2.4-specific syntax. Hopefully it works on Python 2.3 too... Porting this to Python 2.2 is not easy, as it lacks one of the necessary socket APIs (socket.settimeout). Hi, It would be really useful if the website would mention what version of python you need for every release. I currently am looking what version of pyvnc2swf would still work for the following python versions: python 2.3.4 EL4, FC3 python 2.3.3 FC2 python 2.2.3 EL3, FC1 python 2.2.2 RH9 The need for this is that I'm packaging bith vnc2swf and now pyvnc2swf and the latest version does not work for anything older than python 2.4. But that makes pyvnc2swf not a solution for anything other than FC5 and FC6. You can find vnc2swf packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Fedora Core at: http://dag.wieers.com/packages/vnc2swf/ http://dag.wieers.com/packages/pyvnc2swf/ You may also be interested in how the packaging has been done for pyvnc2swf since there is no installation guideline or best-practices for something like this we opted to move everything to /usr/share/pyvnc2swf/ and make 3 script (pyvnc2swf, pyvnc2swf-edit and pyvnc2swf-play) much like altlinux is currently doing. It's generally accepted that the author should provide a standard way of installation so that packagers do it alike (instead how they feel) :) Thanks for vnc2swf ! -- dag wieers, da...@wi..., http://dag.wieers.com/ -- [all I want is a warm bed and a kind word and unlimited power] |

Hello, As I am starting to use more and more vnc2swf, I would like to, instead of getting a self-contained SWF file, be able to generate an flv file so that I can use another (and enhanced) player. I'm not too familiar with the code yet, but didn't see anything like that. Does anybody now if this is possible and/or where I should start looking in the code? Thanks, Olivier. |

First, let me thank all that have anything to do with this. It has been used here http://dabodev.com/documentation and the results are very useful. Next week I plan on recording Ed doing a 2 hour presentation. There will be a video camera pointed at him, he will be miked, and hopefully the room will be miked too. I hope to be able to make some little scripty thing that will play the mpeg of Ed and swf of his laptop at the same time and somewhat stay in sync. Not that any player supports this - just launch the 2 players and have a 3...2...1.. countdown and let the user futz with getting them synced. Any advice on this would be great. So again, thanks for providing me with a tool to make this possible. My posts here are only meant to improve things, not a complaint. I wish I had a bit more time right now to propose improvements - maybe in a few weeks I will. That said, here we go: The installation instructions left me feeling simi-lost. I am sure I will figure it out, but I'll post my thoughts. maybe a few more lines in http://www.unixuser.org/~euske/vnc2swf/pyvnc2swf.html will make the next person's journey smoother. 1. It took me some wandering around to find the "Installation" page. 2. It doesn't seem to actually 'install' - as in, put vnc2swf.py in /bin or some appropriate dir that is in the PATH. 3. README.txt doesn't have anything useful, other than a link to the home page. I was expecting some sort of instructions. perhaps an INSTALL.txt would be good to have. 4.juser@dhcp63:~/src/pyvnc2swf$ sudo apt-get install python-pymedia E: Couldn't find package python-pymedia No problem, I think i want swf anyway. 5. Is this a problem? juser@dhcp63:~/src/pyvnc2swf$ ./vnc2swf.py Using pygame 1.7.1release open /dev/sequencer: No such file or directory It does run and give me a "Start" button.
