Using TightVNC 1.3.9.0 server & client;
when attempting to access over VPN, one is initially able to do so. After machine is on for a number of hours (haven't been able to determine), the client begins getting a "Authentication Failed" error despite the fact the the password is correct. Rebooting the server corrects the problem.
It therefore appears that TightVNC loses ability to authenticate somehow.

I have seen this also. Rebooting usually helps. TightVNC 1.3.9 on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. Multiple clients including TightVNC and RealVNC on Windows XP, Linux "vncviewer".
