I have same problem. My keyboard is pt-br abnt2. I try create one .vnc file with option keyboard=pt-br, but key 6 continue with error. My version is 2.8.5 too.
I try whith TightVNC Java Viewer (Version 2.8.3) and tightvnc-1.3.10 viewer and real vnc viewer, error is continue.
The vnc server is running in windows xp, windows 8.1 and windows 10 alls pt-br.
The viewer is running win windows 7 pt-br.
