When I install TightVNC 2.8.5 and enter passwords for Admin + Remote during setup, the passwords are not saved. After installing, I have to open TightVNC server and re-enter the passwords.
Confirming.
If I use 8 chars for passwd, installer fails to fill data in the HKLM branch (Registry).
If I use 7 chars for passwd, it is saved, success is indicated in system tray, HKLM is populated.
Anton, thanks. The bug remains in v2.8.7 (at least for me). Out of curiosity I've tried both 32-bit and 64-bit installers on 64-bit w7pro laptop. Both behaves the same way.
Hello! I'd like to add some of my recent observations regarding version 2.8.8. I guess it is related to this bug "fix". Installation using sommand line works fine, I used 9 symbols long passwords for view, control and admin, but only first 8 symbols are important and required, next ones (one or more) are actually ignored and can be anything, for example - if password is set to 10 symbols long, You can use only first 8 symbols and ignore following or write any next symbols and any length You want. Now this bug might escalate as a security issue.

If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
Same problem. If your password is 8 characters, you can get it to silent install with:
SET_PASSWORD=1 VALUE_OF_PASSWORD=abcdefgh
If you use quotes around it, it fails.
except now I have to figure out how to fix this remotely though the command line.
Confirming.
