I have a nasty sound stutter going on, i've had it since the very early builds of v.2.4.x up until the latest build. It seems impossible to run emulation in 50hz (using ReSid) without the sound stuttering/grating. Usually it takes about 10-30 seconds before the stuttering happens. It runs perfect in 60hz display.
I have all the latest directx components installed along with the latest driver for my soundcard. Along with this I have tried different sound settings, changing synchronization method, sample rate, sound buffer size etc.
Perhaps ReSid may be causing this issue? If I use Fast SID sound emulation is always fine in both 50/60hz.
I use a HDMI cable connected to a large HD-TV which supports 50/60hz.
I have this issue on 3 different machines.
Laptop under windows 7 (HDMI 50hz)
Desktop under windows 7 (HDMI 50hz)
Another desktop under windows vista (HDMI 50hz)
I really hope this issue gets resolved because VICE is amazing! Having smooth scrolling at 50hz and good sound is the ultimate c64 experience
Anybody else experiencing this same issue?
Yes, i have the same issue! It has to do with 50HZ i think?
Is it possible for the developers to acknowledge this issue still remains, I realise this project is vastly time consuming and complex so wasn't expecting a speedy response.
for me sound is rock stable - i am not using windows however
Seems that many versions of windows are affected by the issue. Now using Windows 10 and same thing. If you're not using windows and enjoying 50hz without the stutters it may point to a Windows specific problem?
oh 50Hz... is it really specific to that? no idea then, i dont use that either :=P
This problem occures in Windows build when emulator frequence and monitor frequence are (nearly) the same and the emulators sync code fights with the DirectX VBlanc feature. I tried hard to fix that using different threads but never really got a satisfying result.
Maybe will give it another try in the upcoming winter time.
Bug #753 seems a duplicate.
That would be great, not sure if it's ok to mention other emulators here.. However I know WinUAE uses a clever system for adjusting monitor frequency for 50hz whilst avoiding stutter, not sure if it's relevent for VICE developers.
