#694 VICE settings are ignored in some cases

in r30256 sometimes vice ignores my settings.

it happens, when i set up my joystick and other stuff in vice, then save the settings.
now if i use the the same .ini on my desktop system, the whole settings are ignored, probably because there is no joystick attached on that system.

if i do manually change

JoyDevice2=1

or anything else below 4, the settings are read properly again.

it was working in r30217, not in r30230

i haven't tested all emus, but x64c, x128 and xplus4 failed.

i tested pokefinder and my own builds, same result.

generally its not a good idea to re-use vice.ini like that. in many cases the emulator will revert to defaults when there is a problem with whats in the file. vice.log should tell you what happened...

anyway, would you attach that vice.ini and vice.log please?

that might be the problem. it's actually very easy to reproduce.

• start emu with no .ini
• change some settings (language, whatever...)
• choose your attached joystick in joystick settings
• save settings

now exit emu and restart it, everything is fine.
exit again, unplug your joystick and restart.
--> the emu starts with default settings, all your settings are ignored.
