This is a Finnish game called Mehulinja. You need Super Expander to play it.
When you try to load it, it pops up an error message in the terminal: syntax error in 59822
This is a bug introduced in 3.5, because in 3.4, it works fine.
From Wikipedia: "The VIC-1211 Super Expander is a cartridge for the Commodore VIC-20 home computer. It was designed to provide several extensions to the BASIC interpreter on the computer, mostly to help with programming graphics and sound. It also provided 3 kB of extra RAM (of which 136 bytes were used by the cartridge itself). The cartridge was created by Commodore Business Machines (CBM) and released in 1981."
Attach cartridge image, select Super Expander, attach tape image, select mehulinja.t64, press autostart.

???
ok, i found a super expander dump on zimmers, i guess it also needs a +3k expansion then
Do this before you attach super expander:
Settings -> Settings -> Machine -> RAM blocks -> enable Block 0
xvic -default -virtualdev -memory 3k -cartgeneric Super\ Expander.prg +tapebasicload mehulinja.t64
that works. ie what you are probably missing is disabling "load to basic start when autostarting tape" in the autostart settings.
really a strange requirement for a tape game, you'd think it would work with just "load"
Now it just gets stuck in searching.
When I autostart it with basic start disabled, it asks to play press on tape. When I press it, it gets stuck in "searching".
it loads for me with same line as above:
xvic -default -virtualdev -memory 3k -cartgeneric SuperExpander.prg +tapebasicload mehulinja.t64but i need to press the play button.
I can't load any vic20 games from the GUI without autostart. It always gets stuck in "searching".
please tell exactly what you are trying to do - this is with t64 files i guess?
Only with t64 files, forgot to specify.
Attach tape image, select a VIC-20 t64 file, press Open, type LOAD.
you cannot just load, type LOAD"",1,1 and it will work
and it does exactly what it is supposed to do.
closing this - because what Querino said. It's working as intended - this game is a really odd edge cases in how it wants to be loaded
