Hello community,
i have a fast computer. Skylake-i7-CPU and Samsung 850pro SSD. When i mount a veracrypt 1.21 container and want to open a file at a directory with few files it tooks over 10 seconds browsing. I can see the browsing bar at the explorer and after that the small file is open. I can copy a file with 50MB in less than a second into the container. I think a windows patch is the guilty one... Who has an idea or same effect?
Cheers, Frank

Hi Frank, I have the exact same issue.
This effect is directly related to VeraCrypt FileContainers.
On unencrypted volumes this does not happen.
This renders VeraCrypt almost useless if one works with many files and needs to wait 10-15 sec each just to open.
Windows explorer shows the file list instantly, but when clicking one for opening a green bar in the top of the window appears - similar to a search operation.
I have not figured out how to speed that up, i.e. what the root cause for this performance issue is.
Was on Truecrypt before and this never happened.
Any hints would be great!

For the record, I have a fairly slow PC, running fully patched Win7 SP1, currently using VC1.21, have been a Truecrypt/Veracrypt user since TC3.1 (I think), and I never have this issue (either with file containers, or encrypted partitions, on internal or external drives, or NAS devices.). Browsing of either is lightning fast, whatever the hardware, as is opening files.
So, probably not a VC problem per se, something to do with your configuration(s)? Please don't slag off VC; the fact you've had no responses to date probably indicates most VC users don't experience this issue, it's related to your setup(s). No-one can help as it stands, they have no idea what could possibly be the problem, we're not mind readers!
We need more info. Does it happen equally for containers mounted on internal hard drives, external hard drives, network shares? What sort of files does it affect? All equally, or specific types? What sort of files are you trying to 'open'? Executables? Text files? Media files? Do you run any other encryption software/hardware? Do you run a security suite that tries to monitor/block suspicious processes running on your PC? Do you use some web-based 'smartscreen filter' to check files before they are run/launched? Etc etc?
Have you made a donation to the developers recently?

Hi Adrian, thanks for the message and sorry for my late reply, somehow I did not realize there was a post.
However, I recently opened a topic here with my still pending problem https://sourceforge.net/p/veracrypt/discussion/general/thread/aa595f65c7/?limit=25#ed42
Thanks.
