I have been using veracrypt for many years.
I had bootloader crashes, no problem with the rescue disk reinstalling works perfect. And in a few instances I found some new software install that created some instability.
However since 1 week on my work laptop, everytime i put it to 'sleep', when i restart it, boot loader is corrupt and i need to restore it.
I did not install any new software since months. There was no real update on anything I used. I am really using basic mail/messaging software and browser. Windows did not have a major security update or anything.
Does anyone have the same issue lately?
Or can anyone suggest something I could do to investigate and find the source of the problem.
I am on the latest veracrypt built.
    Thank you!

    Please provide:

    • OS Version & Patch Level -> Click on Start or Windows icon lower left and type winver and post entire OS Version and OS Build
    • VeraCrypt version

See documentation below to make sure you are using a support OS:

What is the exact error message you are seeing on the bootloader screen?

the classic blue screen that windows boot is corrupt and needs to be repaired. i just boot with rescue disk, i use "r" to reinstall the boot binaries and it works.
i had this problem before every 1 year or so, when there was some software or update that did something. but now it is everytime i put PC to sleep, they get corrupted.
And again I checked, i did not install any software, anyway my PC is very clean, i use it for business and it has really only the basic tools. I did chkdsk etc. Any suggestion is welcome.

I would check the Windows Event Viewer for errors around the date and time when you encounter the BSOD when putting the PC in sleep mode and when you attempt to wake the PC leading to the corrupt bootloader.

Are you using the VeraCrypt optional feature "Activate encryption of keys and passwords stored in RAM" located in Settings > Performance and Driver Options?

Do you have enabled in Settings > Preferences > Actions tab:

    • VeraCrypt Background Task
    • Start VeraCrypt Background Task

Sorry I think i wasn't clear. I don't have the BSOD while using my PC. My PC works fine, i close the screen to put it to sleep (it activates veracrypt boot on restart) and then i have the BSOD and i need to use rescue disk. Of course before it just booted normally and asked me for my password to gain access.
As far windows event viewer, it is a bit too advanced for me. I see errors "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly" since that 'bug'. But i am not sure if it is just created because of crash to just report the problem i have. But it does show since I have this problem.. Anyway it doesn't help me pinpoint the problem. Maybe it does to you. To be clear, i just put it to sleep with PC behaving normally like it was last 2 years. I have my windows settings to put to sleep when my screen is closed.
Problem started June 19th, and i looked for any changes on any software on June 19th, there is none :(

And yes, settings are enabled, as they always were.

I want to add: No I do not use: ""Activate encryption of keys and passwords stored in RAM" located in Settings > Performance and Driver Options?".
