If you are a Windows Insider and you have the newest Windows 11 build (e.g. 22621.160 in the Beta Channel), Microsoft rolls out the new Windows Explorer which has tabs now. As soon as you get this new version of the Windows Exploer with tab views, it is not possible anymore, to start "Open File" dialogs in Veracrypt (e. g. to select a volume file or a key file). After clicking on the button, nothing happens and Veracrypt "freezes". You have to stop it via task manager.
is anybody of the development team aware of this problem? I try to explain it again:
In the new Windows 11 release 22H2 which will be rolled out to customers in autumn this year, Microsoft plans to roll out a new Windows Explorer version having a new navigation pane and tabs. In the Windows Insider Channels "Dev" and "Beta" you can already test this new File Explorer version.
As soon as you have this new Windows Explorer, Veracrypt is no more able to open "Open File"/"Open Directory" dialogs like "Select File...", "Add Files..." or "Add Path..." in the Keyfiles dialog. Veracrypt freezes (or maybe enters an endless loop?) and does not respond anymore. Drag and drop instead of opening a dialog still works without any problem.
The issue occurs on all of my three PCs with Windows Insider builds and I also know from other Windows Insiders, that they have the same problem. Besides of writing here, I have also described the issue in Microsoft's Feedback Hub.
Of course you have still two or three months time to take some testing/fixing actions, but it would be great to hear from you, that you are aware of these future issues.
If you would tell me, that I could help you with some specific information (logs, debug info), I would be glad to help. In this case just tell me what to do. Thank you.
Michael

the developer hasn't logged in 4 months here, veracrypt has way longer issues that haven't been fixed, like random read/writes for ssds which make the ssds slow or eufi hidden windows so i wouldn't get my hopes high for this to be fixed before 2025 (if ever)

I have created the ticket #493 on this issue now. I hope somebody will take care of it.
