Why isn't password working (it is the correct password) in this instance?

Have a hard drive where I've encrypted the whole drive using veracrypt. Was working fine till latest win 11 update. Won't load to desktop now.
No issues loading the drive, it asks for pw and pim and it accepts it, but then sticks in windows update screen.
Figured I'd just re-install but I want to pull out some files before re-installing windows.
So tried to hook it up as an external but no matter what I've tried it won't mount the drive. I'm 100% certain that the pw and pim is correct so that leaves something else as being done wrong.
Is there anyone might know what I'm missing?
    thanks in advance.

Are you using exactly the same VeraCrypt version on the other computer where you are trying to mount the system encrypted partition?

If you are running the 1.26.x version on the other computer and the original computer was using an older version, you are likely encountering an issue of one or more depreciated items:

    • TrueCrypt Mode
    • HMAC-RIPEMD-160 Hash Algorithm. The value found in the Volume Properties PKCS-5 PRF.
    • GOST89 Encryption Algorithm

    .
PS: You can install 1.25.9 version on the other computer which will still have the code for the above items.

I think I was using an older version. Don't remember updating it after I encrypted it either. But that 1.25 version gave the same error message result unfortunately.

I am wondering if Microsoft had to allocate more space to the Recovery Tool partition that caused the stall during the update.

Starting with 1.25.4 version released December 3, 2021 for Windows VeraCrypt system encryption:

    • Block Windows from resizing system partition if it is encrypted

    .
Did you create the VeraCrypt Rescue Disk during the system encryption process that you can boot from on the original computer?

    Unfortunately not.
I'm going to try to see if I can somehow repair the windows install. Failing that I guess I'll have to write off the files.
