Take a new USB disk (tried with various brands). As per "best practice" delete existing partition and use volume creation wizard to create an encrypted volume ("simple one" - not "even" a hidden volume). Everything works as expected / documented.
Now mount the volume - no matter what I do (and I certainly DO NOT click mount as read only) the system mounts it as read only (assuming proper credentials obviously). Clearly it is not as I managed to format it !
Any idea ?

Well doesn't seem to raise much interrest but I am fairly convinced that there is an issue here.
I have now reproduced the problem with a directly attached (SATA) device.
Is Windows7 a supported OS ?

I use VeraCrypt 1.22 on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and have no issues encrypting USB drives.
As I am not a power user, and as encryption by its nature can be narky, I always keep it simple.
I do not delete an existing partition prior to encryption. If the drive has been used unencrypted on a prior occassion I simply do not select Quick Format in VC.
