So, I am trying to Decrypt a 1.4 TB External USB Drive. The drive is 1.4 TB cap, but actually has only about 40GB of files on it.

I am being told this will take 33 days in the interface which has been running for about 12 hours now.

Anyone experience something similar to this? Is there anything I can do while Decryption is paused that might speed this up? Everything I've read makes it clear this sort of time for such a small amount of space is unusual.
Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

For what you want to do, you're lucky that the size of the files on your drive is only 40 GB. The easiest solution is to find a temporary space on another drive where you can safely copy and store those files, and then bypass decryption entirely by reformatting the currently-encrypted drive, either a quick format or all-zeros format. The days-long estimated decryption time must be due to a bottleneck in the USB interface, but whatever the reason, formatting the drive should go much, much quicker and let you start over. After the drive is formatted, you might be better served by creating a modestly sized VeraCrypt container, and if you format it with NTFS you can expand it later as your needs outgrow the original size.
