Is it safe to update from v.1.26.15 to the most recent version when Hibernation and Fast Startup are enabled?

I want to update to the most recent version because my version is still from 2024. However, I have Hibernation and Fast Startup enabled (I am not shutting my PC off with Hibernation but it it enabled - just in case) and I read that some newer versions of VC have problems with such things. Is it true? Can I safely update to the latest version?

If you are using VeraCrypt system encryption, be sure to create new Rescue Disk after you upgrade/update the VeraCrypt software.

Try to stay current on software releases.

    Notification Solutions

Gary Marks solution is to get notifications from SourceForge whenever new software files are available.

Heribert Slama uses RSS feeds whenever new software files are available.

    Disable Fast Startup.

Also disable Hibernate if using VeraCrypt RAM encryption option.

Sometimes Windows upgrades or updates re-enable Fast Startup and Hibernate.

Since version 1.24-Update7, VeraCrypt now will prompt and disable Fast Startup and Hibernate as needed when you install/upgrade VeraCrypt software, enable/perform VeraCrypt system encryption or create a new VeraCrypt volume.

    Disable Fast Startup

After you disable the setting, you must reboot your PC for the change to take effect.

Known issues with VeraCrypt and Windows Fast Startup are:

    • Prevents System Favorites from working.
    • When VeraCrypt RAM encryption is enabled, Windows shutdown returns to the windows login screen then to desktop as if Windows just started. Continued attempts result in the same loop.
    • Windows does not shutdown completely leaving security issues by not prompting password for VeraCrypt volumes and leaving VeraCrypt volumes mounted.

    .
    Disable Hibernate

    1.24-Update7

    • Implement detection of Hibernate and Fast Startup and disable them if RAM encryption is activated.
