I'm running Linux Mint XFCE 19.1 (32 bit)
When creating a new hidden volume with veracrypt I get the following error right after clicking format and entering my admin password:
Bad file descriptor veracrypt:coreservice::startelevated:517
It seems to create a normal volume afterwards. However, I'm trying to create an outer volume and a hidden one in it.
Probably won't help you much but I've seen similar issues un MacOS X. I would say that you will be better off doing volume management under Windows.
The error is due to linux not being able to find localhost machine name. It is fixed by modifing /etc/hosts
