I am trying to get into a USB I encrypted a while ago, however when I mount it and type the correct password, after I try to open it, it gives me the error "You need to format the disk in drive D: before you can use it." - Any help would be appreciated.

If you are new to VeraCrypt...Make sure after mounting the USB drive to only use the drive letter you selected in VeraCrypt for accessing the encrypted drive. Trying to use the drive letter the operating system assigned when you plugged in the USB drive will give a message that the drive needs to be formatted (as the OS cannot fathom the encryption).

With the VeraCrypt volume dismounted, using Windows Disk Management do you see a drive letter assigned to the drive or partition that you encrypted using VeraCrypt?
If yes, you need to remove the Windows assigned drive letter while the VeraCrypt volume is dismounted by using Windows Disk Management.
In the future, should you decide to in-place decrypt the drive/partition, after the decryption has completed successfully, use the Disk Management to assign a drive letter back to the decrypted drive/partition.

I also encountered the same situation as above, however I did not see the virtual drive on disk management. Is there any way to reopen the data?
