How do you boot a OS from a USB, on a computer that happens to be encrypted via VC?

    background details:
The computer has windows 8.1 and 10 on one drive on seperate partitions, and a second internal drive with no OS on it-

I have the first drive system encrypted, and the second drive is also encrypted- that one is not a system partition. (did this setup so windows 10 couldn't see into my real drives)

Anyway, I wanted to test out on my computer a macrium rescue USB i made for someone else, so I plug it in, start the computer - the VC bootloader comes right up.
I then hit Escape, and then it shows the first drive's reserved partition(windows did that obviously)- and also a drive2- that is my USB stick i put in.

So, I hit option 2 to boot

    then it says

    "Booting..."

then seems to do nothing more- i waited about 5+ minutes, then repeated this twice- same thing

how do you do a normal boot from USB?

By the way, i saw if i dont have the USB in, it then just starts automatic repair, not sure why,,,- i immediately turned off the PC, as i feel like that will brick my PC if i let that run- but the documentation isn't clear on that

    1. How do you boot from USB?

    2. was i right to kill automatic repair before it started? obviously it's probably not a part of , ya know, booting from a usb....

Have you checked your BIOS USB settings, that 'Legacy USB' and/or USB2.0/3.0 are enabled?
