Hi there. After encrypting my system partition I enabled legacy and AHCI boot mode in order to still be able to boot into windows 10 after passing the bootloader.

However, for some reason Windows 10 is not able to enter sleep mode, hibernation or even shutting off (!). After trying to go into sleep mode / shut off, windows 10 goes dark for a second, but the windows login screen reemerges righter afterwards. the only way I can shut my PC off is doing a hard shutdown. I already decrypted and reencrypted without any change to the situation.

Any advice on the situation? thanks a million.

    cheers

No insights on this issue? Am I the only one?

From your description of going dark for a second and then getting the login screen, it sounds like something that's happening while going to sleep might be also serving as a trigger for waking up. You might be able to get more information by opening a command prompt and typing "powercfg -lastwake". For comparison, here's what showed on my computer after I woke my computer up this morning with USB mouse motion:

    C:\Users\Gary Marks>powercfg -lastwake
    Wake History Count - 1
    Wake History [0]
    Wake Source Count - 1
    Wake Source [0]
    Type: Device
    Instance Path: USB\ROOT_HUB\4&ca1a60d&0
    Friendly Name:
    Description: USB Root Hub
    Manufacturer: (Standard USB Host Controller)

You might also be able to get some useful information by going through the "Event Viewer-->Windows Logs-->System" entries directly following the very brief entry into the sleep state.

    thanks for the reply.

the powercfg tells me: "wake history count - 0"

I assume, windows does not even manage to go to sleep.

I have no idea how veracrypt could interfere with windows 10 itselfe, so it does not even go to sleep. Might there be a reason?

I want to highlight, that only sleeping, hibernation and shutting down are affected. I can restart.

No idea how that can be.

Thank you for the tip. I have disabled fast boot and now shutting down actually works.

However, the system still won't go to sleep or hibernate (even if I disable hibernate, it won't sleep - the screen just turns black and the wake history count remains "0").

After encrypting my system partition I enabled legacy and AHCI boot mode.....

What was the BIOS settings before encrypting the system drive/partition? It is not clear why you needed to change the settings. Were you getting an error?

Hi Enigma. I activated legacy and AHCI boot mode as I've read (in an out-dated post) that this is required to boot from MBR.

    However:

    1) Despite my false belief that my created W10 installation USB stick creates an MBR disk layout, my Windows 10 runs as GPT.

    2) I can hence deactive legacy boot mode and boot normal in UEFI (which I currently do)

    3) Only changing vom AHCI to Raid/Disabled breaks boot capability of Windows 10 (and as there's no benefit of Raid over AHCI in my set-up, I am fine with using it)

Sorry for the late input on this detail. If you need any more information please tell me - I appreciate any help! :)

p.s.: just make myself clear: Windows 10 goes perfectly to sleep when the system partition is not encrypted (I have a 500 GB SSD with two Partitions - both are encrypted. The non-system partition is mounted as system favorite)

No one else with an idea to the problem?

Unfortunately, I still run into the same problem. Does anyone have a solution for this? Thanks :)
